Keith's 2015 Mega Hot Hatch Thread

Featured Replies

Lots of the Warm & Hot Hatch stuff is ramped up now pre September 2015 when cars after this will have to meet Euro 6 Emissions.

These past few months there was talk of the £1 Litre of Fuel in the UK and now the price is going up again.

All it takes is a Government Campaign to enforce the Speed Limits in the UK, and thats happening now,

more cameras, plead quilty online in England & Wales etc.

Then the Hot Hatch and faster Hot Hatch market can take a dive in the UK.

More efficient, more reliable, nicer and better value is always going to be selling more cars in the UK than the cars that can already go at double

the NSL being able to Max at even more, & getting to the National Speed Limit in under 7 seconds, under 6 seconds or even under 5 seconds

only has you stuck behind the car in front for an extra few seconds usually.

* A reformed Old Boy Racer, trying to keep his driving Licence.*

It is nice to be able to overtake safely in the Speed Limits, but then most 150 bhp cars in the UK that are not fat hippos can do that.

There are some right Porkers of Hot Hatches being built now,

they need more power to get a move on, and bigger brakes to stop their lardy arse.

*Just add lightness, Handling, Traction , Braking and decent tyres for the use the car gets, ie if a Road Car, then Road Tyres,

maybe not Semi Track or Semi Eco.*

Nearly every time a Hot Hatch article appears the Testers mention the Suzuki Swift Sport which Handles and is around the cheapest Warm Hatch.

If Suzuki gave it more power it would likely be no more usable on UK roads than it is already.

Its time that more decent sized & weight small sub £18-19,000 Warm Hatches were available in the UK.

5 Door ones, not the likes of a small 3 door near no rear seat Abarth, Mito, MINI (there are 5 doors now i know)

A 5 Door Fiesta ST would be a good start, but then Ford want people buying a Focus to get 5 doors.

Phoenix in Paisley have an ex demo with 2,600 on the clock - £12,000 sticker price - can't believe how cheap it is!

  • You'd have to be a bit daft to think there won't be. Ford has (unlike other car makers) realised that loads of people remap and found a way to influence what people do to their cars. At least by off

  • This is my one, love the little beast.

  • Makes you wonder why so few makers do have an approved remap available. You'd think it would be better for VAG to be involved in a safe remap for it's products that just leave the door open to a mult

Worth giving them a try to see what they want to offer you for your rare car.

Not exactly a Super Hatch but still interesting.

Will BossFox be into this?

With so many hot hatch threads running now and so many links being posted I missed this.

Unsurprising as I've started to lose interest.

No, not interested at all.

Why reduce the amount of time you can enjoy a car within the speed limit on full throttle if it's already very good?

But people get obsessed with power, not fun.

The Fiesta ST's best feature is it's fun handling balance. Better than most things out there.

Not it's straight line performance.

But people get obsessed with power. Not fun.

Fun doesn't give you big potato points to brag down the pub or on car forums to make you feel superior to drivers of "inferior" cars.

I'm over that. :)

They are aimed at very different buyers really.

Yes there are Subaru STI drivers that may buy a Audi /VW and do or have in the past.

But the Volkswagen Group build and sell Jack of All trade cars, in pretty much the same set up with Driver adjustability of the controls

and suspension and traction. Not always supplied with the greatest of OEM tyres.

there are Harder Core VWG ones to buy at a price,

but mostly they sell Passenger Carrying, everyday use cars for Business , Pleasure and leisure use.

3 & 5 door /estate cars with the option to by safe handling cars that can commute, do Motorways or back roads, have long service intervals

and have a certain safe & reliable image.

Are saying then, no real point in having Mountune ? You having driven before and after?

Was there meant to be a response here, or just boosting post count? :)

Comment was "No need to invest in Mountune then"

Got totally lost in the post then

I missed it too. :)

Mountune is how Fiesta is supposed to be, hence full warranty cover.

I also think you missed the main point I was making VRS Keith.

100% like this..........................

I know I love an R..............& having driven them MK7 & MK4.................I could still by one, BUT as above I have more fun trying to drive my lowly 1.4TSI (140PS) very Briskly .............takes more skill as you have to make sure you are in the right gear to not lose speed/momentum.....................infact I even had more "fun" in my old Fabia going down the back roads than I do with this car as my new car just handles them so easily & just goes around the corners as if it wasn't there by comparison.

An R on the same back roads just monsters it..................how fast do you want to lose your licence??.........................EVO mag did a thing on EVONESS ages ago..............basically some of the old small hatch's had more EVOness than the newer ones because they required more skill in getting the most out of the car & engine..............

TBH huge power is nice, huge handling is nice, but on what could be a fun back road it is just reduced to a point & press exercise & to get anywhere near the edges of the envelop you have to have HUGE kahunas & a total disregard for your licence!...........

I will concede this point, the most you really need in this country is a "R" it's mad enough & grippy & fast, anything bigger & more powerful is just a waste of money on our public roads!

From the Current Crop if buying used & not what are coming and as yet really untried on UK roads,

a Magazines Choice.

If going well above £22,000,  then there is obviously cars like the Ford Focus ST, Vauxhall VXR,

& for less money but a Hot Hatch the Abarth would surely be in the hunt & a Clio RS 200.

Not sure if this has been posted in here as I haven't watched every video, but as a recent post discussed the Scooby Golf R thing, I saw this one today.

Seems to suggest the cars as overall equals, but very different in personality. I still have a soft spot for Scoobys, but their running cost nearly made me bankrupt back in the 90s :D Only wish they made them a bit more Q car-ish

Saw it earlier today. Not so sure about equal, depends on your requirement I guess.

We will see - R400 in reserve just in case. lol

Well equal in the way a petrol head can look at 2 cars with similar power and cost and consider how much they would like either one, even though they are fundamentally different in character.

Still a proper Hot Hatch in 2015 /16 .

Bigger, but still not too lardy & choice of Auto or Manual & front wheel drive.

It might well be in many peoples eyes, but when driving you do not usually look at the outside of a car.

It is a proper Hot Hatch though if a bit expensive.

(I am getting to borrow one next week for 5 hours, looking forward to it.)

Waiting on the demo Cooper Works S arriving. Been out in a Cooper S auto for a wee run just as a comparison.

Not a Mega Hot Hatch,

but surely a Hot Hatch that suits UK Roads, and maybe the pockets many of those wanting a properly sorted New Hot Hatch with Automated Manual gear changes.

You would hope that the Manufacturers Warranty stays valid without any argument if you take your Clio or any Renault on Track at a Trackday.
