Common faults to check for when picking up a new car?

Featured Replies

I have to say, having ordered and then as collection approached, finding my car was built wrong that I still feel the experience has been positive....

They have kept us informed all the time, answered questions, and re-ordered our car and lent us a car to use whilst it arrives

I did have a really good look at the paintwork on the one that wasn't ours (:-/) and it looked like any other factory paint job to me, I would have been happy with it... And that was flat blue, (checked after a previous comment somewhere about flat colours not being as good)

I think it's either a 'glass half full' or a 'glass half empty' experience tbh.

Sorry, half posted.......

Some dealers seem better than others and sometimes your experience with someone at the dealers is completely different to mine.....

I guess 'you can't please all the people all the time'

Oh, and if you think posts on a forum are a representative sample of the number of owners who have had problems vs. the number who haven't, then I fear that you perhaps don't quite have a grip on reality.  If you really don't like Skoda that much, sell the damn thing and buy something else.

Skoda forums will attract Skoda fanboys.

Dell forums will attract Dell fanboys.

Windows forums will attract Windows fanboys.

You get the idea...........

Read Dr Zoidberg's claims about tyre wear on his/her Skoda, for example.........40k on fronts, 60k on rears.......Guinness will be wanting an interview with him/her very shortly I'm sure.

Take it all with a pinch of salt.

Worth checking closely the paintwork and window seals for gouges and defects generally. The dealers can be a bit rough with taking the transport wrapping off.

I did like the brand. Why would I consider parting with £25k with them and then deciding to do so.

I have also been patient and understanding after 4 months. The car is ultimately a let down and the support from dealer and SUK has slowly unravelled into something quite amateur.

It would have been a great car and my other half will miss it more than me but the(my) principle is to vote with your feet. It's a lot of money and to see your car dismantled is sickening.

The glass was half full if not totally full. I was pleased as punch when I took delivery. Unfortunately a dealer has sold what the trade calls a 'lemon'?

Reject it then - you're under no obligation to let them attempt to repair anything, no matter what they say.  Write a letter to the dealer (and the finance company if it was bought through one) stating that you are formally rejecting the car and either they must refund all monies paid, or replace it with a new identical model (if you want to go that way).  If they refuse, get the car magazines involved... dealers don't like that sort of publicity at all.  You have legal rights which the dealership and Skoda UK must adhere to - they won't want to for obvious reasons, and will try it on because most people don't realise what their rights are, but stick to your guns, threaten legal action and publicity if necessary and you'll probably be surprised just how quickly they accept the rejection.

There are a few accounts on here of dodgy cars getting out, but touch wood, after 5 days of ownership, Black Betty is still doing fine, other than being filthy already!

That said . . . . the inside of the doors are rather wet!? The windows come up rather damp after being fully lowered. . . :-( Should this be the case?

Err no
