Cat-D

Featured Replies

Morning !

Is there any way to find out the extent of Cat-D damage other than what the seller tells you ?

What is the seller telling you , a cat d can be anything ie bumper missing or trashed a wing stupid what cars are written off nowadays. My Mk1 was a cat d wing bumper and door all offside its the price to fix which is not viable. as to your original question i dont think so.

Boss Fox bought a Fabia with Cat C damage, only visible damage was a small ding in boot lid

A Cat D is a financial indicator not a physical one -cost of repair is less than the value of the car.   The insurance company then takes into account its other cost such as hire car while the insured one is repaired and what it is likely to get back on selling the salvage then make its decision to repair or make an offer.

The damage on a new car can be very extensive and still be a Cat D and is likely to be and its only older vehicles that turn up with just a bumper or wing damaged as their pre accident value is very low.

I've  bought and sold a number of accident damaged repairables and have always taken photos showing the damage before repair - otherwise someone buying a car from me has no reason to believe I'm telling the truth about the extent of the damage.

There should be no reason a repaired car is not a good purchase however if you don't have the knowledge to check it yourself  its vital you have it checked by some who is and ideally on a lift as seen plenty of bodgies.
