noise in the dash board!

Featured Replies

Hiya i have just got my fabia on saturday, its a 1.9 tdi comfort >_>.

Now on the test drive i couldnt hear a thing.

But driving home there is a 'creaking' noise coming from the middle of the dash board. Now if you apply a little preassure on the top it goes away. Any thoughts? the car comes with a 12 month warrnty so will i have to take it in for the to take a look? I dont know any more info i am afraid. If you look at were the hazard button is, say about half into the dash on the top.

Cheers guys, i know you can point me in the right direction :D

Thanks again

Si

Squeaking/creaking from the centre air vents is a very common problem caused by a bit of plastic and a bit of metal rubbing together I think. I got mine silicone gel'ed when I had my air con sensor replaced and the dash was out, but others have used a long blade screwdriver to wedge some foam in there with the dash in place...... :D

Yep ME! Easiest way without major hassle, is to gently pry out the centre air vent, unclip hazard button and leave hanging down. Above the air ducting behind the vent, there is a mounting about 12" back, maybe less far (12" from gap in dashboard say) I took a bit of old inner bicycle inner tube, folded it up and wrapped with sellotape to keep in a "ball" and used a long bladed screwdriver to shove it between the plastic mount and the chassis mount point.

If the car is under warranty, tell your dealer to get this done. Tell them the above repair method, and say an expert said this was how to do it. ;) Maybe that should be "expert" - never forget the quote marks. :D

It developed on mine earlier this year, but I'm waiting to the next service to get it fixed. I don't want to service the car before December, which would be 12 months, but service oil is already appearing as I have only 800 odd miles to go. I'll be taking the bus more then! :D

Cheers guys! thanks again. My round at the pub is going to get very big :p

If i took it to a dealers is it a big job? I brought my skoda in stoke from the skoda dealership, and hopefully would i be able to have it done in cannock my local garage?

The rubber inner tube got me thinking ;)

Cheers again!

P.S i need to upload some pics of mine and my brothers furbys :D

If its a warranty issue, you don't need to worry about it being a big job. ;) Just tell them a muppet from Devon did his in about 15 minutes - blatantly look at your watch, grab a newspaper and go and sit down in the waiting area. ;)

I whack my dash in the centre every 50miles, seems to do the job. :D

Keep meaning to get round to fixing it.

Cheers guys,

Rang my local skoda and they refused to do it under warranty because its a 'used car'. So i rang the skoda in stoke were i brought it and they are doing it for free.

Had the car 4 days and there is a problem. Buts its a 40 mile drive to stoke so going to spend the day there whilst its being done.

Its booked for the 22nd, i cant do weekdays becuase of working, so 3 weeks with this noise? I am going to be a wreck :P
