Will Citigo temp. Control knobs fit my Monte?

Featured Replies

I had a Citigo courtesy car last week and really liked the temperature knobs and was wondering if i could fit them in my monte as they are dull and boring and just plain plastic? Pic below of Citigo ones and then fabia mk 2 ones, not great pics:

I just want to change the three round knobs, not the whole dash

I've wondered this myself. Just the boring black ones on my vRS too!

Yeah i know, really want to find out if they would fit, and the light switch also...looks identical but on eBay it doesn't show Fabia under the cars that it can be fitted to...

The citigo ones are smaller iirc?

  • Author

Are they?? Are you 100% sure cos i really want to fit them in my car :D

What about the light switch? Is that smaller too? If they are all smaller then that's a bit stupid that they've made it so you can't fit it to a fabia and they've fitted these crap plastic OEM ones, so annoying

Obviously nobody should ever do this, but some do.

They park their car in Customer Parking,

pull off the Switches on their car. (oo er missus.)

Have a look about the Showroom or Car Supermarket parking where they can sit in a car,

and whip of the Knobs / Switches and tries to see if they are interchangeable.

Obviously not keeping the ones, just trying them to see.

This is why when you buy new, used, ex Demos etc,

check the Knobs, Switches, Tools etc,  because some times the car is not as it should be.

Well there's only one way to find out, measure it..gunna post in the Citigo forum and see if someone will be kind enough to measure them and let me know

Im not 100% sure, no. But If you look in a citigo im sure they are smaller. Have a trip to the dealers (:

I agree with George. Id try that. No harm in testing, aslong as you dont break anything. Cos then you have to edge for the door discretely ahaha

There are a few Members in this section that have a Mk2 Fabia and a Citigo.

Maybe just not the Fabia with your type of switches.

Wait a while and maybe some member can help you.

If i don't find out from the forum then i might have to pop to the local Skoda dealer. I'll try not to break anything haha ;)

Yeah i've posted in the Citigo section so i'll wait and see if someone can help

Thanks Oli, will try him if i can't find the measurements myself, really hope they would fit

Just for those that didn't want to venture into the Citigo section of the forum I'll quote the answer from the other side onto here:

Larger ones are 52mm outer ring diameter, 34mm actual switch. Smaller one 40mm outer ring, 26mm switch.

So how big are the Fabia ones? Never actually measured mine.

  • Author

Yeah thanks peter3197 for measuring, haven't measured mine yet but will do later tonight and post on here

  • Author

Just measured mine, larger one is (i think) 30mm and smaller one is 25mm but will have a proper measure in the light tomorrow

So far i think the light switch is a straight swap from the Citigo one to the Fabia one but waiting for a reply to confirm. Hopefully the temperature knobs are also a straight swap, gunna speak to dealer tomorrow and see how much they cost

Did you try a google of

skoda fabia mk2 heater knobs

& then look at those for sale on Ebay etc,  aluminium heater knobs

I tried searching for fabia ones on ebay but couldn't find any, couldn't find any for the citigo either apart from the light switch which i think is a straight swap

I got a heater off eBay for the Polo 6R which came with chrome knobs.  The oysters seem the same size, but the fan is slightly larger.

also, the knobs on my Fabia absolutely will not budge, even with a cloth and grippers, the whole unit is trying to pull out of the dash.

real shame, I can’t see how the Fabia knobs are fitted but equally, why would they be massively different to Vag ones?

Ok I had a proper go.

the outer Fabia (temp and distribution) knobs are the same size as the VAG centre fan knob, they’re also on completely different mountings so it’s a real sandpaper and dremil job to get them to fit.  The white gubbins bit is identical, so it’s all to do with the faceplate.

only way I can see this working nicely is to have 3 VW heater fans and use two switches for the outers, then very carefully sand down the 3rd one to size for the centre, or sand down all 3 knobs and make the ring holes larger on the Skoda face plate.  Or, spray them!

luckily I got my polo one for £15 posted off eBay, think I will go the chrome spray route, shame it can’t easily be done.

Dunno about the centre switches but the headlight switch should be very easy to obtain with chrome trims. The main difference will be firstly, backlight colour as if you fit a VW one, it will light up red. Most aftermarket ones do. (Skoda use green lights). Secondly, some switches have LARGE plug ins, some have  SMALL plug ins. Fabias used to have the larger size. I got myself a chrome switch from a roomster and then the "module" to connect its smaller plug and give me come home/tunnel lights. It also meant I kept green backlighting. If you are interested, I might be able to dig up the details of where I obtained them. I also have an aluminium bezel to go around the switch which I had almost from new. Makes it look a little nicer. I also tracked down a set of switches for the windows, that are green lit nd have the little bit of chrome later VW switches have. Easy to get red ones, green trickier.

Yes I’ve got a headlight switch, and I tried the auto lights module (in the auto headlights thread) and gave up with it sadly.

What do you mean when you say the alloy bezel around the switch?

good find with the window switches!  Only ones I can find are VAG.
