Had to share this about the awesome VRS and the look on the other guys face..

Right guys.. I know I might get a few people slating me now for breaking laws or whatever.. But please if you are going to save the time and save the keys on the board of the unrelenting bashing you probably do a lot.

Anyway.. I was driving to go to a meal with my mrs the other day and I had some bloody Astra trying to burn me on every take.. Literally until the last breath and I just kept letting it go as my mrs reminded me it's not worth it most of the time, anyway, I ended up at this last roundabout and came side by side with a different Astra that seemed to be edging oh so very slowly getting ready to burn me off.. So I thought bugger it, followed all of George's tips, (thanks George) I put it in manual, lightly hovered the break and lifted the hand brake, bear in mind it was quite wet, verging on icy perhaps, but I know this road, I know this roundabout, I know where the ice lies and I know how to handle it in these conditions well.. As much as possible anyway, so the lights turn on green and I drop the hand brake fire down the pedal and lost everything behind me, it began to drift round the roundabout in an awesome way while still kicking the power out obviously traction control was off!! But the best bit about all of this is.. The Astra pulled along side me with the man gesturing so I wound my window down ready for a pn argument about my driving, and he was elated.. So was his missis, they were both screaming 'that was awesome that was insane that car is so fast what is it??' I literally could not take the smile off of my face.. The Fabia storms ahead yet again.. And people didn't even know what it was..!!

Oh yeah man, you are the diddy :dull:

I would have gone for a vrs if it wasn't for the insurance...but went for a 1.2tsi instead, still quite nippy though. Anyway, i do think that fabias and vrs's in particular are wolves in sheeps' clothing, very underestimated.

When i first got my car and was driving back from the dealer, i was on the slip road about to join the motorway and this Mini was itching to join and overtake me and was right up my bumper and it was the second time i ever drove my fabia and i put my foot down and the Mini disappeared behind me somewhere, Mini's aren't quick but pretty sure it was a 1.6 and they thought i had no chance haha.

TBH I have had a few instances where people have thought 'its only a skoda, I will blits it'.

Best example was driving on the A45 between Thrapston and Rusden. Single carriage way before the dual carriage way coming up to a roundabout. Now I know that the road is a speed haven for some. But coming up to the roundabout I had a Megane 225 right up behind me pushing and pushing. We came on to the roundabout but by the time we exited we were side by side. Floor planted in manual and I just pulled away. Now I am guessing a 225 has 225hp but I don't know what size or turbo'd or what but it couldn't keep up even when we got to 70 - 80+.

When we reached the next roundabout, he pulled up aside and asked what stage my was at as it was quick. I said 'just bog standard' which he was not to pleased to hear.

Was it a 1.4 8v Astra? Your sense of pride must have been overwhelming :)

Insurance? My MK2 Octavia VRS was about 20% cheaper than my MK1 Octavia L&K!

Ah, the happy times of coming across someone who thinks he is so unbelievably quick and you are only inside a Skoda...

Well the vrs was about £500 more per year and i couldn't afford that so went for the 1.2 instead

Might have been VXR. I had run in VXR who came past me on the inside lane after I'd overtaken him doing the NSL.

I learnt my lesson as I easily caught him at a stupid speed to find sitting on the next overpass a group of policemen dressed in black with speed guns. At that speed it was easily a ban, luckily nothing came through and they either only got the VXR driver or didn't get either of us.

Any advantage through the roundabout will have been lost by having to pull over to top up the engine oil immediately after [emoji2]

Oh yes! Because they need topped up every couple of hundred metres!?!?!

Really???????? Old joke is old. :-p

Better than being sideswiped by Box Vans at filter lanes at roundabouts when not giving way some might say.

DO-NOT-FEED

Sometimes a shoot down is better than a famine.

Back on topic, I really envy you guys there. I am not talking street racing or anything like that obviously but from the sounds of it, coming across this type of drivers is not so rare is it? Two Astra's on the same trip and so much more I've read over the years. It's pretty "dry" around here.  :S

Do you mean dry as in there's noone to test your car against? There's a few boy racers around here that love their white Corsa Limited Edition and put stickers on the back windows... Had this guy try to race me in his mk 1 octavia vrs who came up very quick behind me at these red lights late at night and i thought "let's see what you got",i obviously knew he would have me as his car is faster but i thought i'd try anyway, i kept up until about 50 mph but then he sped off haha i wasn't surprised tbh but anyway it is fun coming up against other cars like that who like to show what they have lol (all was within the speed limit as the road was a NSL)

Oh and also there's this guy with a black estate AMG merc with a V8 that loves to rev it around town haha

If I had an AMG V8 Merc I'd do the same!

Intoxicating sound!!

Haha wouldn't blame you, it's so loud and sounds really good

Kind of. I don't do traffic light racing or any silly driving downtown though. But once you get to more open roads in the suburbs or the highway it can get interesting if you have the right "company".

I had a woman in a Mercedes SLK convertible try it on twice over 0-80kph from a  couple of freeway traffic lights (yep, they have lights on some of the freeways here).

It was like she couldn't believe it the first time! After that, she decided to hang back :D

I find it very amusing when people in "bigger & better" cars think they are the mutts nutts.  I drive down the A516 every morning which is a single carriage lane goes to a dual.  This morning for example I had some BMW not sure which one as they look all the same, up my back end I was doing 60 and wouldn't go any quicker, he tried to over take, I put my foot down he gets behind, tries for a second time (after a car goes past us on the opposite side) I again put my foot down.  He gets behind me and flashes his lights I ignore this because I know what's coming up...drop to Sport look in my mirror and wave, then boot it, got about a mile and half of getting away from this loon and get behind traffic, he eventually catches up and pulls along side me looks in disgust and drives off while ive got a big grin on my face. :D

Why did you put your foot down when he wanted to over take when you already said you didnt want to go above 60? Maybe im missing something... but its like you have to prove your skoda isnt slow or something? He prob just wanted to get on with his journey and didnt care in the slightest what you were driving. Sure he is sitting on your bumper, but why not let him sit up someone elses bumper and have him overtake you if you dont like it? (not trying to provoke anything, I just cant see why you would do that?)
