VRS - faint vibration 1300-1500 revs?

Featured Replies

As per title the last month or two I have felt a slight vibration / buzz at low revs in 1st and second gear at approx 1300-1500 which is not present higher up the rev range.  Have read a few threads which seem to suggest this could be DMF related?  However, there are no other symptoms (judder, clutch feel).

Car is a mapped vrs with performance sachs clutch and standard DMF I believe.  I suspect the previous owner who fitted the clutch didn't put a fresh DMF in at the same time as there is no record of parts / fitting of DMF in the history.

Car is driving fine and the vibration doesn't seem to have got worse, but it is nagging at me.  Just carry on till it develops into something worse or investigate now?  Anything else simple and obvious that it could be?

could it be engine mounting related- maybe the lower rear?

Might be a good shout as there does seem to be quite a bit of movement on start up.  Any way to check easily?

p.s. kudos re lupo gti.  sold one a couple of years back which was mint and which I've always regretted.

gearbox engine mount

Standard or aftermarket replacement?

The aftermarket mounts tend to be very harsh for a daily, a lot of extra vibrations end up being transmitted through the cabin.

A lot of people go for standard mounts and the powerflex dog bone insert which helps reduce the engine rocking back and forth under acceleration.

If it's not the mounts though chances are it'll be the DMF. Mine makes a bit of a noise at low revs under load but until it goes it's staying as it is.

i got full set of vibra technics mounts and didn't notice any vibration until i fitted the dogbone mount and even with that its not that bad with just the gearbox and the 1 to left of engine no vibration what so ever what i will say it the car drives better with these mounts handles better and gets the power down much much better a must imo
