Faltering starts

Featured Replies

I have always driven engaging the clutch around 1100 revs for a smooth and progressive start. While this serves well for 95% of the time there are times when a more robust start is required at busy junctions and roundabouts. I have found with my 1.2tsi 86bhp Roomie that it can hesitate and falter at urgent starts. When it falters I dip the clutch, give more gas and engage the clutch when the turbo urges the engine at around 1500 revs. Under a full load it becomes disconcerting. Do other members find this? Perhaps it is a symptom of fitting small capacity engines to large bodied cars. Also the engine is rather flat on the gas pedal until the turbo cuts in! Perhaps the 105bhp engine negates the problem.

Ed
