New Superb - any World's first tech or simply clever features/gizmos/gadgets?

Featured Replies

Guys,

What do you think? Like the twin door tailgate, which was an innovation and a brilliant feature which was introduced in current Superb......what are you guys expecting from the next gen Superb? I'm pretty sure there will be surprises

Only couple of weeks left for the official reveal at Prague....can't wait to see the flagship

They've always done clever executions with the seats (pics below) in both Superb I & II, either it can be used as a calf-rest/foot-rest or if you are loading long items...it is ideal. Apparently, Chinese and other Asian customers love this calf/foot-rest feature as they are chauffeured around more often   So, we will have to wait and see how they are going to make the best use of the massive knee/leg room in Superb III......

Any thoughts / guesses, please do post here guys.....the countdown begins for the reveal B)

They have strongly hinted at multimedia technology being to the fore in the next Superb so maybe something along those line although iPad type controls, larger screens, wireless charging etc has been done before.  Multimedia holders (for phones/tablets) for each passenger maybe?  Personally I'd like them to concentrate on getting the practical stuff right, such as phone and other device compatibility and a higher quality voice recognition and phone system - this will appeal to the business market which is where Skoda are pitching.

Two umbrellas (one in each door) has also been mentioned - I think that will be a first.  Again, Skoda seem to emphasise increased legroom even more so with the next generation so I agree with joeboy about the rear but not sure what exactly they will do - it would be easy to raid the parts bin from the Audi A8 and stick in an extendable foot rest maybe or improve the current (laughable) footrests that are included in the L&K.

Lift up rear squabs in the hatch would be a step forward . I hear the twin door is going which is a shame and I bet it gets more targeted towards the taxi industry

Agree about the phone/media , it still lacks behind other manufacturers

In truth though the Mk2 Superb is a pretty good car , after 6 years and 85,000 miles I have few complaints , its not going to be easy to build on its success and not ruin the good things about it

Personally from a tech perspective I was wanting a Plugin Hybrid option, but looks like that is not on the cards. I would hate to buy the Passat GTE, when what I really want to buy is another Skoda.

I hope the phone/media is improved, but if it is it has to be Android Auto/Apple Car Play, not the half way house, screen mirror implementations we are seeing in other cars. ICE has always been years behind in all cars.

Skoda have mentioned using MirrorLink for the Superb but that will hardly be revolutionary by the time the car is launched!

Hpoom, don't be disappointed. Superb PHEV will follow the base car soon....no doubts. But that's another area where Skoda can really show off their 'simply clever' engineering/packaging with the boot space without being eaten up a lot by the battery pack!

In fact, Superb II introduced AFS (adaptive front light system) way ahead of other VW products such as Passat / Golf and even Touareg....correct me if I'm wrong here. So, there are opportunities here to do something with the full LED headlights....I hope they do something intelligent on Superb III and not just sticking to the ones we've seen from spy shots

The, other one was 'Park Assist' which was introduced in Superb (only parallel) in 2008 which was well ahead of any other Luxury brands incl BMW, Audi, Merc. Only Lexus & Toyota had introduced Park Assist before Superb.....these are facts  . Again, correct me if I'm wrong!

Very often people don't realise and appreciate that these intelligent features were launched in Superb back in 2008 which is a shame. So, hope Superb III will not disappoint us with the next gen features / tech.

The Superb headlights are fantastic however park assist is a useless gimmick IMO , only benefit was to get the better front sensors

You are right, RapidRonnie. That ipad dock is 'simply clever' I reckon. It is a simple idea but with a clever execution

I'm hoping that it's not too wide over the mirrors, the current car is a tight fit in my garage!

Superb II is the narrowest car in it's segment (1817 / 2009mm with mirrors) and looks like it will get wider like any other car of this generation. New Passat is 1834mm so you should expect around that dimension. However, all press releases tell us that it will be 50mm wider from current car!

Btw, Octavia is 1814mm now which is just 3mm narrower than Superb II.

iPad dock in the rear centre armrest, allowing you to control music e.t.c...

This ipad connectivity and smartgate feature also will be availiable on Passat. So it is not  that unique.

RapidRonnie mentioned about ipod holder/dock and not connectivity. I guess this is unique to Superb III
