Wing mirror vandalised :-(

Featured Replies

Some scum must have kicked my passenger wing mirror. When I got back to the car (public car park) after work yesterday evening, the glass was broken and hanging off. I'm fairly certain someone pulled off my headlamp washer a few weeks ago too. I've only had the 02 Octavia about 3 months and this never happened with the N-reg Golf I used to have (same car park, same spot, parked in same spot for 18 months).

Has anyone else experienced vandalism on their Octavia, to a greater degree than 'normal'?

Anyway, I don't have any choice re. parking, so all I can do is park in a more inconvenient spot, where less people are likely to walk past. (No, there is no cctv and no security in this car park).

Luckily, I just need to replace the glass. Halfords sell the just the mirror bit for about

Thanks Eddy.

Would the heating function still work with a new layer of glass on top, do you think?

Thanks Eddy.

The halfords packaging says it does. No reason why the heat wouldn't get through by conduction, may just take a little longer. It's worth a try though as glass from the dealer with the holder and heating element is around

Heard of a few probs with replacing these in the past.Friend once put replacement glass on heater mirror and it burnt wiring back to dash, when heated mirror was turned on.

Rather pay the extra and be sure i don't have any more costs in the future.

Hello everybody,

I recently reversed past a post and took off the passenger door mirror of my 2003 Octavia. Prat. Anyway, how easy is it to replace a broken wing mirror? The glass is fine; what is broken is whatever piece holds the entire mirror onto the car... it got sheared off by the reversal process.

I am reasonably technically literate, and can wield screwdrivers and spanners with gusto.

Thanks in advance,

Mike Hislop
