GAP insurance

Featured Replies

Is it worth it?! i turned it down on the the vrs im getting this week as it seemed rather expensive, and i had seen deals online for MUCH cheaper, but more importantly, does it do what the dealer says it does and have any of you ever bought it?

There was a thread on here somewhere regarding it

Better to buy it online and not off the dealer basically

Yes. You'd be daft not.

You can get them cheaper on line, but check they pay out (google the company etc) as like any insurance they employ loss adjusters. The benfit of buying it from the dealer is that it's not in their interests to quibble over the values, plus they get a commission and therefore more likely to help you next time you want to trade up / buy a new car / get your exploded turbo repaired under warranty even though you remapped the radio, but it's more expensive.

Thanks for the reply, any reccomendations on insurance other than just googling it? is there a well known one that offers it? preferable by DD

I looked at three or four, sorry I can't remember the names, but I was a bit disturbed by the lack of small print on a couple of them. I ended up doing a deal with the dealer (I bought two cars at the same time, so had some room to haggle).

Which? magazine has tested some of them I think, I'll have a look later for you this evening, if I forget (I'm off out now for a couple of hours or so) PM me and I'll take a look.

Hi,

Please feel free to five us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

We also offer a product called Total Loss Protection. Whilst its not exactly the same as your traditional GAP insurance but we feel it can offer a cost effective alternative.

Regards,

Dan.

If you're buying new then it's worth getting, but not from the dealer.

It was amusing that skoda tried to sell me car insurance including gap protection, for cheaper than the stand alone gap insurance.

Well worth getting, but many far cheaper sources than the one sold by the dealership. Members of the CSMA can get the exact same GAP insurance, from Car Car Plan (who provide the one Skoda sells) for about half the price the dealership sells it for. Other insurance companies also do even better deals. I've got my 3yr GAP insurance through Chris Knott Insurance for just over £80 (one off payment).
