rear courtesy lights

Featured Replies

Hi folks just wonder if anyone has changed a bulb on the rear curtesy lights? I have removed the actual unit but am no wiser seems to be a sealed unit and I,m afraid to start dismantling in case I break it. Does anyone have any pics showing how to replace bulb(Superb 2006 1.9tdi).Thanks in advance.

Is it anything like one of these?:

If so, they can be prised apart (gently - you can see I've knackered a lower right lug on the black one).  Although if I recall correctly, I think the bulb is underneath the black plastic cover at the top centre of this photo (arrowed) - unscrews, very fiddly, but doable.

I have changed both of these lamps. They're a special, obtainable (at some cost) from any VW dealer. Don't waste your time with"Skoda".

To get the bulbs out of the courtesy lamp fitting, rotate the black plastic "plug" 1/4 turn anti-clockwise. There is a coin/screwdriver slot to facilitate this. The bulb and its holder will then come free of the fitting - with a bit of wiggling.

Thanks guys that is indeed the very one v6TDI,and I will follow your instructions Rotodiesel and let you know how I get on.

 They're a special

Because there aren't enough lightbulb designs in the world... arghhh!!!!

The reason the lamps are specials is that VAG wanted to fit a security system into an old bodyshell with no provision. So, they modified the interior light units to incorporate the alarm motion sensors and electronics - which left very little room for the lamp. Hence the special type.

A standard festoon or wedge base lamp would have fitted the original units.

Got the bulb out at the weekend and broke the bulb, does the bulb and black piece it's attached to all the one unit?nearest VW/Skoda dealer 12 miles away.does anyone know if interior light is the same as Octavia/Passat as they're a few in local scrappie. If not will go to dealer.

The ones in my photo are from a B5 Passat.  I've not oiked the ones out of my Superb.  I'd certainly be going to a scrappy for these and not to VAG.

As long as the part numbers match, I'd think you'd be laughing.
