All Season Tyres

Featured Replies

I am thinking some of these to my 4x4 Octavia. Anyone got a recommendation on a make?

I found Goodyear Vector 4 seasons to be very good on my fwd Octavia, so much so I never actually felt the need for 4x4 even in heavy snow. After that I tried Falken euroall season as200 which were just as good if not better, and quite a bit cheaper than the Goodyears.

Both were 'snowflake' marked so also classed as proper winter tyres.

I used Vredestein Quatrac 3, now superseded by Quatrac 4, on my Passat B5.5.They had amazing traction in snow and they were little different from summer tyres in warm dry weather. Ran at full load on autoroutes without overheating. Wore as well as the summer tyres .

I just put some Nexen N4 Pris on my Octavia3 and got to try them out this morning. Everyone was struggling to get up the hill I live on, even with a run up. I reversed out of the drive and went straight up the hill from a standing start like it was normal dry roads. I'd highly recommend these tyres. the reviews seem to agree. Cost me about £230 for all 4 on 225/45/17 on a V rating from tyreleader.

If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is.

Hi,

I've recently fitted Vredestein Quatrac 5's to a Scout which has transformed the winter handling (was on the factory fit tyres).

They handle our usual winter conditions astonishingly well when others were slipping or stuck, including a range of posh German 4x4's........

...even with one of these on top!

Previously we've always fitted Quatrac 3's to both our cars.  Very capable, quiet, great life from the Quatrac 3's and as a bonus the mpg is improved over the factory fit Dunlop SP's.

Kind Regards

Ian

I'm considering a set for my Octavia. Can you tell how many thousand miles they lasted.

Have Vredestein Quatrac 3 on mine, good in snow and on a muddy field getting my caravan off and on.

The Goodyears started off with 9mm tread and I changed them when they were worn down to 3-3.5mm. On the front that took about 26k miles, on the back it was 34k. That was mainly consisting of reasonably fast driving on twisty B roads, so a very good wear rate in my opinion.

Kleber Quadraxa have done well for me, they wear well, but can't comment on summer use as I use them purely for winters.

Mike

Interested to find someone else here using Kleber's.  Mine haven't done 2K miles yet and I'm eager to see some snow down here!  Even a heavy frost would be good on the hills!

Sounds good. My current summer tyres are down to 3.5mm  on the front. . With a 12k annual mileage I should get  just over 2 yrs on the Goodyears Then. Just need to decide if I change now or maybe wait another 4 months or so before changing so I'm sure I  get two full winters out the Goodyears

+1 for the Goodyear 4 seasons. Used them on my Octy Scout and my old SLK230. Excellent grip in all conditions.

Anybody able to comment if all seasons last as long on a DSG as opposed to manual.

Should they have the same wear rate?

55k good for 3 1/2 sets of fronts of normal summer tires?

As next set i'm thinking all season for the first time.

I use ContiWinterContact TS800/850 as all year tires.

Best wet grip you can get, off-road good, winter-decent, unless you do track days - almost any tyre does for dry surface.

how does gearbox matter?

It is more about your driving style rather than shifting gear, don't you think?

looks like Lecht Ski Center?

Im thinking yes you are probably right, but in the old days people said you didnt get the same MPG with Auto's.

I just wonder if you should get better wear with DSG as smoother changes, more ECU controlled Traction control etc etc as its all linked in with the DSG system.

In the weather here in Brizzle when its been -2 to + 5 my goodyear Efficeint Grip Performance's have been slippy slidy on the damp cold roundabouts and junctions even with 6mm of tread left, so basically thinking the next set will be all season once i have decifered which ones of course as there seem to be a fair few popular choices on here.

using firestione winterhawk 2 on my octavia better than the nankang/ landsail that were on it when i bought the car, didnt bother taking thenm off in the summer as i couldnt tell the diffrence and i dont do that many mile

The pic was yestwrday morning no bother despite people not able to get up the  hill i live on

I think it doesn't matter.

In old days auto-gearboxes used to have four gears - stupid machines, never knowing to shift at right time. I think modern auto-gearboxes are slightly smarter, still they don't know whether you drive uphill or not (humans shift earlier in steep ascend)

Another vote for Falken Euro Allseason AS200. Have them on my Scout. Very happy.

  • 6 months later...

Resurrecting this thread simply because of a milestone (figuratively!).

The Yeti has just had its third annual service/MoT and was returned with the usual report.  The relevant bit here showed the year-old Kleber Quadraxers after 8K miles at 7mm all round - front, back, n/s, o/s, centre treads and both edges.  Rather pleased, given the state of our local lanes.  Perhaps we'll have some snow this winter...

+1 Got them on my Scout too and serving me well.
