Fiat Copying Skoda

Featured Replies

The new punto due out , erm , sometime , will have a sporty version with a 1.9TDI engine making 130 bhp.

Looks like other manufacturers are noticing that diesel hot/warm hatches are a good idea.

They already do a Punto Multijet HGT... 105 bhp 1.9 TDI if i remember right, doesnt sound much but a Punto is a good deal lighter than a vRS, still not as fast though, but its there now... just hardly anyone realises it exists

no contest... ours looks/built better... at the end of the day the vRS can be seen a hot hatch / but then with a few little touches eg. sat-nav mfd, the famous interior lighting :D can leave it looking like a fantastic executive sports hatch.... punto will always look like a toy racer!

Anyway let them copy... let people buy them... just makes the sensible people make the right choice and the skoda club more exclusive if less people buy them

I'm guessing it will some suped up JTD engine? They've not got any technology comparable to the PD system? right?

Just read that Mitsubishi and Chrysler have now bought the PD engine to use in thier new line ups.

New Punto looks really smart

New Punto looks really smart

Yes it does look nice BUT...................Its a FIAT !!! :orb_lol:

Fix It Again Tomorrow. :D

I guess with Ford using the PD in the Galaxy, it was only a matter of time before the technology spread further. Nice to think an American Chrysler is being powered by a VW originated engine. :D

Well for the moment, I can thinnk of two cars off the top of my head where the diesel version is actually the fastest: BMW 1 series, and new Kia Rio. Not that I'd necessarily want to buy either of them (although the Kia's fantastic VFM - one for SWMBO, perhaps!!! ;) )

*Just kidding!*

there is a new 1 series out now... the 130, big three litre petrol, much faster than the 165bhp deisel.......

Well, yeah, OK there is NOW, but there wasn't when it first came out, which was my point...

I'd imagine it would be inhumanely fast given the fact that the 1 series is quite small and light...not surprising they fit in a 3 litre unit, that front end is quite big for a hatch...

I saw a black punto this morning Y reg, every time the woman driving did something, braked, accelerated etc the hazards started flashing and flickering, i wonder if she knew!

I've been in the 'Angel Tuning' Punto JTD and f*** me it's seriously fast!

Easily as quick as an Octy RS  and miles better handling.

was the vRS available when the Fabia first came out...

was the vRS available when the Fabia first came out...

No

Lots of manufacturers have sporty (well, sporty ish) diesel hatches...

Ford Fiesta Zetec-S TDCi,

the VAG 3 (Ibiza, Polo, Fabia),

Clio Dynamique 100 DCi,

Fiat Punto HGT,

MGZR TD,

206HDi GTI,

Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 CDTi SRI.

The list goes on...

The fact that the vRS is the king is irrelevant, it wasn't the first on the scene...

was the vRS available when the Fabia first came out...

:finger: Sheesh! I'm not talking about the Fabia vRS being the fastest Fabia when the first came out!!! What I'm saying is that it's not unheard of NOW for a new model being released NOW (in 2005) to have a diesel version as its fastest one AT THE TIME OF THE MODEL FIRST GOING ON SALE...

And my point was correct for both of the examples I gave!

Read the whole thread before you start making smart-ar$e comments!!!

But skoda copied VW who copied peugot re hottish diesel hatches.

Take a bow the Peugot 306 D Turbo which I still reckon started all this quick diesel nonsense ;)

To be fair to Fiat I think their top GT model will be featuring a 1.6Turbo petrol engine.

Speaking as a Punto driver, I'd rather have the Skoda Tdi vrs than a similar engined punto, for space and reliability. But the punto will be nice and cheap in comparison I bet.

Who cares who copied who, his point was about Fiat bringing out a warm hatch. And anyway, besides all of this, it's only a crappy badly made unreliable Fix It Again Tony.

:ready2go:

:ready2go:

 not at all. it was just the whole

"the 120d is the fastest 1 series"

"but there's a 130 out now and that's faster"

"but that wasn't available at launch tho, and was my whole point"

"the fabia vrs wasn't available at launch either"

"rant rant rant rah rah rah moan moan moan"

thing that kinda confused me :ne_nau:

I`m not a Fiat fan, but i like the look of the new Punto and the cheeky looking Panda.
