Help needed - SD card slot

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

The SD card I have been using for music in my VRS seems to have lost a bit of itself inside the card slot.

As the picture shows the top corner has come off.

I expect this piece is still inside the slot as you cannot insert another card all the way.

Before I take the car to a dealer to have the multimedia unit removed and taken apart (I guess that's what they would do)

Does anyone else have any suggestions for removal of the aforementioned piece?

The slot has rubber dust guards so it hard to look inside even when getting down level with the unit.

You could try using the nozzle attachment of a hoover with a thin cloth (a sock or such like) stretched over it? It may be sufficient to suck out the offending bit

Failing the hoover method, you can't harm it by poking a paper clip in the slot to hook the piece out.

Thanks guys

Tried the Hoover, no joy unfortunately

I did have a poke around with a plastic tooth pick but I cannot seem to get hold of anything.

I'm not sure how an SD card slot works but it feels like the piece is keeping the spring part that lets you press to insert and release the card in the down position. As when you try another card there's no spring resistance there at all.

It sounds like the bit has got the pop in/out spring jammed up as you say.

Short of poking harder, I'm not sure what to suggest... The spring is quite strong so if a piece is lodged it won't come out easily. Do you have 2 slots, and if so are you using both?

I have two slots, but I know ill be forever annoyed that one isn't working

The other has the Skoda SD card which has the sat Nav software on it

Does this need to stay in for the nav to work?

I have the Columbus head unit / screen

Can you not put the broken card back in (it should match the profile of the retained piece), push really hard along the broken edge and hope it releases the spring part (as if normally removing a complete card). Then have a go again with a toothpick/hoover to remove the hopefully now loose piece?

Yes, sat nav SD has to stay. So not really an option.

Edit ignore me, no idea why you have a nav SD card in a Columbus!

Columbus has a HDD for its SatNav so, I'd guess it'll still work if you remove the Skoda Card.... Try it and see.

Tried this no luck, I'll see what I can do in the day light tomorrow

If not I'll speak to my local dealer

I'll try this, I did think the Columbus had a HDD for the nav data, but the card was in the slot when I collected the car
