What is a TPI

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what a TPI is exactly.

I have an Octavia 2.0 TDI 60 plate which recently broke / split / disintegrated the sprung clutch ring, causing it to go through the clutch and into the gearbox, necessitating a new clutch, gearbox and bell housing.  - im no technician, but this is what was explained to me.

My skoda dealer has been wonderful, and tells me that a TPI was issued about this fault on 13th January this year -  a week before my car went into the garage with this fault!  The dealer says skoda issue a TPI when its a known fault.  Skoda customer services say its just info for the dealers on how to fix the fault.

Skoda will not contribute to the parts, but are giving £600 goodwill towards my £3000 bill.

Has anyone else heard of this fault, know what a TPI is, or got anything else they can tell me??

The car has only done 48000 miles and is regularly serviced by skoda.

Thanks for reading

Coped from another thread:

TPI = Technical Product Information.

A bit like an internal dealer memo that warns of defects and recalls.

Can i see this TPI anywhere?  It is definitely a warning of a spoecific defect? - I would hope with this I could take if further for more compensation???

thanks for this info so far

That amount of goodwill is a joke, you should be only paying 1000/1200 ive had the teves abs and new air con on my Octavia go out of warranty, and had my mechatronics unit fail on my DSG out of warranty and each time I contributed to the price, speak with them direct even if one person says no ,dont give up, I have had rude customer services advisors then I have had great ones, carrot and stick works, say you love your car have always had it dealer serviced and want to remain loyal to the brand and would love to post a favourable outcome on Briskoda should you help me. In some way you are in a good position as they are aware of a known fault, my DSG are replaced completely free in other parts of the world but not in the uk, mine was £2582.05 yet paid £1000 so it can be done, best of luck ,Alan

You can access and print off the TPI if you pay for access to ERWIN. If you can afford to pay for 24 hours of access, you can download comprehensive workshop information which is direct from the manufacturer for your car. See the thread below for more information.

Ok why did you have a gearbox? Pressure plate spring has rubbed through the bell housing. .so why not just a new bell housing and clutch kit?.

the ring went through into the gearbox too, it was gearbox oil dripping that was the only indication of anything wrong!!

Fair enough. Can't see how the pressure plate finger would get inside the gearbox. One of the pressure plate fingers usually fails and sticks out . This then as the clutch is spinning causes the finger to rub against the bell housing of the gearbox and cuts and rubs through. It then leaks oil from the gearbox onto the clutch. Changing the bell housing is a PITA .
