Iv just got VR52 DEC for vrs and my name dec get it off dvla not new reg or anywhere new reg appears cheaper until you go to pay and they add this and that into it all and it becomes a lot more expensive than dvla price

 

Despite what the number plate dealers tell you (because they add charges on afterwards) I always find DVLA cheaper for the purchase and transfer together.

Most of the Reg websites actually buy it from the DVLA and then charge you for doing so.

Definitely go straight through the DVLA, unless it's unavailable on their site, meaning it's a plate already owned and being sold through that company.

THe DVLA have auctions where the (alledgedly) more appealing plates get sold

I agree with everything BOSSFOX said..............

 

On the past two cars which were new from dealers the choice of plates I have was good & in both cases managed to pick good standard plates that read very well eg P310 ### on a Polo........

 

New car would have to start SX64 or SY64..............so had a look for a good plate.........DVLA.gov site, even under £500 the choice, I like ski-ing so how's SK14 ALE (ski for ale), or SK12 FAR (ski too far).....................

 

Decided to go for a car specific.........lets just say on a MK7 GOLF..."MK07".......the last 3 letters are even better & most people think it is showroom plate....cost £280 all in..... :sun: .....plus I would be able to sell it to any MK07 owner for £££££

 

anything with VW or VAG is £400 plus...............
