Help: the hazard warning lights keep flashing on my Fabia

Featured Replies

My Fabia has just developed an unusual fault. Yesterday when I parked my car and started to leave it, the alarm came on. Starting the car didn't help. Eventually, after 15 minutes, it stopped

Today whenever I parked my car and left it, the hazard lights flashed. Any idea what's going on and what I can do to fix it?

How old?

Is your alarm still working? I mean when you leave the car is it still setting itself? If the alarm took 15m to cut out that is the maximum time limit it will sound for before silencing itself (auto cut off so it doesn't sound for 3 hrs while you are away shopping for example) the hazard lights then flash to alert you that the alarm has been triggered. It may be the alarm needs resetting somehow. I'm not sure if disconnecting the battery might do it??

I thought this

But then, it let him start the car, and an immobiliser wouldnt?

I'm not clued up but are the immobiliser and alarm different?

Well the alarm goes off or the lights flash, so it's obviously linked to the alarm in some way. Haven't tried disconnecting the battery, but might this have some other impact?

Well tbh mate, im not on a car either.

But on my bike the alarm and immobiliser are the same unit.

In basics, if the alarm is going and just try to put the key in the ignition, itll stop you from starting it as an anti theft thing.

But it may very well he extremely different on the fabia, i dont know. I may be talking completely irrelevant stuff haha

Disconnecting the battery may require you to put the radio code back in if the cars computer doesn't store it as a unique id.

The thought behind the alarm /immobiliser being different, to me anyway is that when you press the button on the key the alarm is turned off but the car is still immobilised until the key is put in and turned. It may be the same unit with 2 different modules? Like I said though, this is just guess work and could be complete ballolocks! Sorry if these ideas are useless OP I hope someone can be of more definitive help.

Which can be found in your User Manual. Or if you have a Swing (for example), am I right in saying they are all the same code?

Mines not in my manual, dno about anybody else's.

But the car remembers it anyway. It comes up with code, then if you turn the ignition on it should work

Mine was hense why I said it, should be like a little business card I'll grab a photo of mine if I remember later.

My mum had similar issues with her 2011 vrs , the alarm would unset , some electrics like windows etc would work and on a couple of occasions it left her stranded

Eventually turned out to be a faulty ecu, at no point were any error codes left which made diagnosis difficult

Sounds quite alarming

check all connections on the door, boot, bonnet closure thingys, little plunger things

my old mk1 would go off and it turned out to be the bonnet catch, took it apart, cleaned it and just oiled it, worked a treat after that

Sounds quite alarming

I see what you did there....
