1.6tdi greenline SE Business or 1.6tdi SE Business

Featured Replies

Evening, I'm currently driving a 12 plate Yeti Greenline which I have had from new. In the next 8 months I will have to place an order for a replacement (company car) I have throughly loved the Yeti and would have another at the drop of a hat if the engines where more efficient.

Therefore, I'm looking at the Octavia Estate. I've been reading a lot from this forum and have decided that the 1.6 tdi will be more than capable for my needs. However, this is where the decisions become a little "difficult".

Should I go Greenline again or opt for the stand 1.6tdi. I'm looking at the SE Business spec, but would like to spec a number of options which aren't available in the Greenline, namely power boot, Canton.

I do 200 miles per day motorway driving, so the economy is a high priority, but it is a balancing act between economy and comfort.

So my question is, has anyone driven both and can provide feedback on the benefits of both engine and combinations.

Thanks inadvance for any comments.

Looks like it's a straight decision between do you want lower BIK payments, or power boot and Canton.

Do you really need a power boot, nice to have admittedly, but do you really need it.

The standard sound system is OK and again you've been used to it in your Yeti, nice to have Canton, but do you really need it.

Strangely the Greenline has more power than the standard 1.6 TDI, and is faster accelerating with a higher top speed, and is more economical as well, check out the Skoda website for performance and economy.

Comfort on the motorway should be good in either car as the roads are generally fairly smooth, back roads may be different, but if you are happy with your Yeti Greenline in this respect you should be happy with the Octavia Greenline as well.

You say economy is a high priority, and if it's higher than power boot and Canton the decision has been made.

Greenline on the basis its slightly quicker than the regular 1.6 and will make for a cheaper company car. If you're even remotely bothered about the tax liability IMHO its a no brainer.

Does the green line still have the added benefit of the 6 speed box? Assuming you're going for a manual, this apparently vastly improves the car over the 5 speed.

Yep the 110 TDI gets the 6 speed is another good point

I've got a business Greenline estate on order. If I find the Amundsen system wanting quality-wise, what are my options? A dealer wouldn't retrofit a Canton as it would break the model spec for emissions etc.

The Amundsen has DAB tuner - no problems with quality whatsoever.

Amundsen is fine, is basically the Bolero with an SD driven nav module. Nav capability is more than adequate and a nice bit of standard spec....certainly wouldnt pay the 700-odd quid SUK want for it though.

Canton will be v difficult to retrofit and would be cost prohibitive....if you really want it make sure you spec it.

I'm actually work in TV sound by trade, so might be pretty fussy, I do find what is written about car systems here and elsewhere quite difficult to interpret - sifting the genuine from the nonsense isn't easy. I had a basic listen in the showroom to the Amundsen and it sounded good enough for a car system - the main thing I'm actually concerned about is volume, as I've read several people say it's deliberately limited, and I didn't really push it in the showroom. I'm too British.

Since I was always going to get the Greenline, the Canton wasn't even an option (and like all the car system options, is ludicrously overpriced), and as I said couldn't be retrofitted by a dealer on a Greenline anyway. Sounds like there's not a great deal that can be done - ah well, it's probably going to be good enough.

Sounds good enough noiseboy after you get the bass mid and treble set appropriately but yes definitely has some artificial level capping on it which has been my biggest disappointment. Bass heavy tracks dont go very loud and also by consequence is very source sensitive, poor quality audio sources sound tragically bad on it.

I dont expect the Canton is perfect but with its much higher and separate amplification, slightly better drivers and sub no doubt makes for bettet stock audio.....whether it is worth 500 notes I guess is arguable but its one thing I kinda wish Id ticked on the options list now.

Wouldnt be big enough a deal-breaker to consider a SE Business over a Greenline for me personally though

Also found that the variable floor isn't available on the Greenline..

Then the next question has to be Manual or Automatic. 200 miles per day on motorways. Ifi go for the 1.6TDI anyone have any views on the DSG as this is the 7 speed box.

If you go for the 105CR over the Greenline, I'd also go for DSG as you'll get 6 speed compared to 5 speed manual and it only loses about 2mpg (official combined!) and only adds 3g CO2 but will be much more relaxed when cruising.

My wife had a 2014 Octavia 1.6 TDI DSG until last week. The 7 speed DSG really suits the 1.6 TDI, but you can't spec it on the Greenline, so it would be the Octavia SE Business 1.6 TDI DSG. Try one, you won't be disappointed.

7 speed DSG on the 1.6 TDI, not 6 speed.

As for more relaxed when cruising I have a Superb Greenline 1.6 TDI with 6 speed manual, and at 70mph the 6 speed manual revs lower than the 7 speed DSG.

I thought that too, but checked the Skoda website and it says wet clutch which is the 6 speed so I edited the post! Won't be first or last time the website is wrong!

How about the Octavia Black Edition, it has sat nav, cruise, front and rear spoilers, rear sunset (privacy) glass, 18 inch wheels and in my opinion it looks pretty good etc. Not sure about the ride quality on 18 inch wheels though.

I can answer that, it's rubbish!
