Brand new car prep

Featured Replies

Has anyone into detailing on here had any experience with requesting that the supplying dealer does not touch paint prior to handover of new car, just interested as I'm about to do this myself.

Read about doing this last week. Keeping the protective blue plastic and foam still all over the bodywork :D

Sometimes leaves light glue residue at the edge of panels etc but still a good thing to do if your well Into detailing and want to spend a good time giving it plenty of protection!

IIRC someone's took a professional detailer to look over the car before he picked it up, then the detailer did the work after so it has been done, but I can't remember who it was.

Yes I did.

The salesman who sold the car to me wasn't happy about handing it over without it being polished but I persisted and in the end the Dealer Principle agreed with me.

I really enjoyed doing it myself.

I actually have a customer who managed to get a discount from the dealer for them not touching his new M135i and even arranged for me to do a new car detail with ceramic coating on their premises! Customer is king remember ;)

I get these requests regularly

Yes, I've done a few for mates who bought new cars.

Thanks for replies what was the paint condition like coming from skoda without the dealer touching it?

The main thing I see is transport film glue and iron fallout that needs to be removed

The whole point though, is prepping it properly without the Dealer Valeters touching it

I bought mine privately. I got a bargain - came with road salt and dirt chucked in for free :D

Does the Iron fallout almost look like surface rust?

Just picked up my new VRS & it's covered in it.

Bilt Hamber Korrosol is my go to iron remover, great product.

Would you say these are them?

Currently using clay on them but it's hard work! If I can apply a product to help remove or aid the claying then I'm in!

I wouldn't be claying that as you risk damaging the paint. Have you tried a tar remover product? Iron particles are minute.

I'm yet to tackle those areas, currently only done the roof and boot. Only product that's been used so far is autoglym shampoo when washing.

Don't think the tar remover will remove the small rust spots?

Correct, tar remover won't remove iron spots. I think it needs a full detox. ie tar remover & then iron remover & then clay.

More products to buy :D

Thanks for the advice.

Iron X and Tardis will get rid of tar and iron fall out, hence the names....
