Sill damage not reported when serviced is this warranty

Featured Replies

Hi I had the Octavia VRS diesel 92k miles and 5 years old, cleaned and they pointed out sill damage to both front sides!!!  I was horrified!!  I was told is was my fault and probably not warranty!!  Cannot buy mudflaps - as Service Manager confirmed, so why sell a car that will get damaged them.  Anyone had this??

I don't think any stone chip damage is covered by any warranty, either corrosion/bodywork or paintwork. If it were then many cars would forever be in the bodyshop at the dealers expense.

If you had done 9200 miles , you may have had a point, but 92K it doesn't owe you owt  :nerd:

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments.  The "damage" is that the paint is off so is the anti corrosion stuff.  I asked for mud flaps when I bought it and told it did not need them and then did not have them for a VRS.  Also dealer technician "forgot" to warn me of the state of the sills, yet ticked all the "No underbody corrosion" box on service ticket.  That is why I feel aggrieved - I could have done something if I had been told.

No flaps for the VRS not standard ones anyway.

Corrosion was hard to spot until it was quite bad

Have a look behind the wheel liner could well be full of damp leaves.

Ta Aspman, I will see what the dealer says re warranty,  I'll check re liners as well.

Corrosion on a 92k motor. Come on chaps.  :x

While I agree there is probably no comeback at this sort of mileage it'd pretty disappointing to see 6/7yr old VRSs rotting along the sills due to a bit of bean-counting by VAG while 14yr old peugeots don't seem to be affected by rust.

Also they fixed it for the FL so Skoda must have spotted the issue early on.

Hi All,, here are some dealer photos to show the damage.  Dealer wants me to pay for it in full!

Doesn't seem to happen on the Mk1 because of the shape of the sill. It flares out and protects the bottom of the door a bit. Stones more likely to hit the bottom of the sill rather than the painted side.

When it happened to mine I looked pretty closely at a few Mk1 since they seemed unaffected.

Hi All, thanks for posts.  To let you know, I came to a deal with the dealer and Skoda central to share the cost of respray for the car.  I then had some standard mud flaps fitted, as none made for vRS it seems?.  Yet the front ones went on straight away with no issues.  Rear ones needed a little help but fit as well!  So now all done and car is safe.  Ta again.
