Yes, VCDS and the dealers software can read the original mileage recorded on the ECU (in KM's).

What happened?

Engine failure at 104K is rare.

Engine failure on the 1.9 PD is rare.

Engine failure on cars on 10K service intervals are rare.

Something must have gone very wrong?

How much was the new engine Skip?

I think I'd have cut my losses myself.

recon engine £1140,with 2 years unlimited mileage, plus fitting

you can see the scoring on the bores it was pressurising the oil and forcing it out through the gasket and it was also getting burnt off

Were you using correct vw oil? I remember you were considering using some cheaper stuff?

Ultra important factor,

505.01 up to 9.5k per drain

506 fleet gamble up to 20k

507 fleet gamble up to 20k dpf essential

Just used 5/30 fully synth didn't bother trying the other

5/30 doesn't cover it Skip, it has to spec VW501.01 506 507 or any one of the three specs for your engine,

Not all oils were born equal ;-)

The VX 5/30 is ok it meets 501.01 spec but if it don't say it on the tub don't use it, there's loads of good Helix, Mobil 1 etc type oils about that don't make the grade for these engines,

EuroCarParts do a suitable one at a reasonable price,

I'd go for the Magnetec out of that lot, you need the 4L and a top up 1L bottle as yours holds 4.5L iirc, might be 4L but unsure as I've not had one for a while myself now.
