Wing Mirror has a mind of its own!?

Featured Replies

Hi all, bit of a strange one, hoping someone can help before I have to go to a Dealer...

I have a 2011 FL  Octavia Scout..

All the toys, almost every option on it...

Anyway I have noticed recently, but now more so as it happens daily.. that the passenger side wing mirror operates on its own accord.. the glass tilts down to a point, no matter what you set it to..

Example, I set the glass to my desired position using the toggle switch on drivers door... a few moments later, regardless of what position the switch is in ( heated, R, L, 0 etc) it will then tilt down, all by itself....

Repositioning it only lasts moments as its back tilting down... I've tried holding the glass whilst the thing tilts, but to no avail..

Secondly:

Noticed this when backing up in the carpark- the glass then further tilts down when reverse is engaged!!!! once out of reverse it then tilted up to its previous tilted position...

Only the Nearside mirror does this..

So I'm thinking either I have a loose wire somewhere... I've activated some wierd setting somewhere... or its broken...

PLEASE can someone help as its driving me up the wall !! Thought I was onto a winner with this motor as it seemed to have no issues whatsoever upon purchase... but the one month / 1000 mile warranty has now expired...

Im sure its something easy but hey... thoughts anyone??

Thanks in advance... Rob

Assuming you also have electric memory seats, this part is normal. It's to help you see the curb when reversing into spaces and I believe it can be disabled via maxidot.

Also assuming you have electric memory seats, it looks like the mirror is adjusting to a 'remembered' position. You probably need to go through a process of clearing the settings then setting it again to suit you and saving it through maxidot.

It is part of the seat memory thing. I think some of the settings like dipping on reverse may be electable via the maxidot settings.

Mine did this.  I repositioned as required it than held "set" and the required memory position for a while.  Its been ok for a while now.

ahhhhh this may explain alot... cos my seats dont always work properly using the presets.... So if i reposition then quickly hold set it should solve problem.... I havent got the manuals for the car to hand otherwise id look it up...

and i dont recall seeing an option in the screen for mirrors but i'll look again

cheers all will report more once ive had a play

Set your mirrors and seat to where you want them, then on the seat, press the set button and then press and hold a number button until you hear a bong. The seat and mirrors will be set. If you use a different key to get in the car then it will remember and set the seat and mirrors accordingly. You can also set how far you want the mirror to move down when you select reverse. With the car engine off and ignition on, select reverse, move the left hand mirror to where you want it, move the gearstick out of reverse and turn the ignition off, the position will be set.
