Black VRS without the black pack

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Looking at a number of VRS yesterday (all different colours), however, they all had the black pack fitted.

Would be interested if anyone has a photo of a metallic black VRS without the black pack that they wouldn't mind uploading.

Just wondering if the black is worth adding or 'be different' by keeping the standard chrome.

Also, how difficult is it to keep the metallic black looking good (ie more difficult than say the red?)

Thanks

Rob

Hi rob,

Mines black estate with black pack - I would say it, but personally much prefer it to the black ones I've seen without the black pack (looks menancing when clean). I don't have any pics uploaded yet but Farsiders motor is a fine example... See here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/gallery/image/5183-skoda-octavia-vrs-estate-5/

In terms of cleaning, it's a pain at the mo with the salt on the roads but I don't think it looks worse than others. The main issue is that swirls and scratches really do show up in sun light and under street lights. Having said this, careful cleaning I.e. prewash and proper wash mitt and two bucket method can help avoid unnecessary additional marks. As recommended on here, I applied poorboys Blackhole glaze which really does fill and hide theses marks.

All in all a it of a challenge to keep clean but worth it I reckon

Hi Rob,

I had 4 black magic cars on the bounce from across the VAG range. Only changed this time as I fancied something different and I spent the money saved by not having metallic paint on the Canton upgrade.

I am also of the opinion that the black pack / black paint option is the better choice - the roof rails are also the same colour as the car if you go for the estate which finishes it off nicely. I would also consider the sunset glass too if going for the uber black image!

In the sun a detailed black car looks amazing; however, it is probably the worst colour for swirl marks and light scratches. These can easily be corrected with a machine polish, but it is high maintenance. If cleaning your car religiously is not your thing then the light silver metallic is the best option - this looks really good with the black pack too.

Never added a photo before on here so hopefully this works. This is my black vrs without black pack.

Go for what you like. I have a moon white with black pack and love it. I had a mk1 Fabia in black and never ever again, what a cow she was to keep clean!

The point is we all like different things but we all love Skoda!

We have a black magic estate without black pack. We didn't get the black pack to save a bit of money and my wife preferred the chrome grille surround. It is also quite an expensive option given the mirrors are already black, and as are the roofrails for all intents and purposes.

I wish we had spec'd sunset glass though. I think that really lets the car down and I'll be organising some tints to rectify that in time.

I find it is a major pain to keep clean. Easy enough to clean but soon gets dirty. I've also found two stone chips on the front bumper (down to white primer) on our's - with 17k on the clock.

HTH :)

I actually agree, the grille on the Mk3 is much less garish than that on the Mk2 so the chrome doesnt look bad at all on any variant, it actually looks good against the black and as skodanorman says the black packs a bit of a rip off on a black car, particularly for the premium it commands on the estate.

Looks smart with silver roof rails and standard grille

The black grille is £42.60 from your local friendly Skoda parts counter. It's fitted in about 10 minutes if you break the old one off in bits - which is far easier than taking the bumper off to do it without breaking It. But let's be honest who needs the chrome one once the black one is on!!!
