Crazy VRS prices!?!

Featured Replies

Out of Thursday afternoon curiosity...(the worst kind)

I did a little search on Auto Trader for Fabia VRS's and arranged them by price high to low.

The top car is £15,990.. with 4k miles on it! (I'm sure there has already been a thread on this one)

A few of them even have the tag line 'Last of a rare breed'

So do dealers have the bare face cheek to try and sell cars (that aren't even new) for over the odds just because they are not being made now?

Madness.

  • Joking apart they actually are. A model in production for 4 1\2 years and less than 700 registered in the UK. Future classic.

  • only 700 estates.... mine is a "future classic" ! lol...

  • Personally I'm well up for crazy vRS prices lol. If the fact there is no mk3 vRS means ours is "last of a rare breed" and prices start to go up as a result of supply/demand then I am more than happy ;

Asking price != Selling price.

Though I'm sure if they sprayed it a certain shade of green it would sell quickly...

Yep,

I note only 2 pages (35 cars) now on Skoda UK used website - hence dwindling stocks at dealers. Dealers using the old supply and demand formula.

So I guess your look at Autotrader is the place to view now.

There will always be a someone who bites and is not a negotiator, who takes in the sales persons   BS.

Ally, this one:http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=604661183

A further half a dozen in the £14.5k >15.5k range. including our friends who was looking to deal a few weeks http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=604791210 ,still asking £15.5k after a 6 weeks period.

£15995, not sure what the shock is.  It's below new price and i have already decided, depending on deals and assuming no new VRS out, i will be looking at a year old last of the line VRS to replace my current one.  Love mine to bits or i could just keep this one long term with a warranty. think my cash figure at end is only £5k so may make sense.

It wouldn't be a shock it were a new car.

The White Estate  64 plate 'Rare Breed', with 21 miles and an asking price of £14,717 looks like a good deal to me.

A nice looking Hatch advertised in Moon White Metallic with 775 miles & with an asking of £13990.

I'd be buying a nearly new Octavia for that money.

There are lots of bigger nearly new cars available for that money.

But not everybody wants or needs bigger cars.

I'd be buying a nearly new Octavia for that money.

Yeah but they are 10 a penny and depreciate at a spectacular rate

Mine was bought for £16000 with 4k on the clock and 3 months old. It's now nearly 2 years old and being sold for £15500 with 30k on the clock.

You're incredibly wrong.

Is it being offered for sale at £15,500 and has someone bought it yet paying that for it?

And so we know what you are talking about,

what car is it and how much was it New nearly 2 years and 30,000 miles ago?

Edited by goneoffSKi

Octavia VRS estate, diesel, 13 plate.

Irrespective of what it will sell for (~£500) it is in no way shape or form classed as high depreciation. The mk2 FL is actually a a strong performer, especially since the new VRS is priced higher than the mk2.

lol.

If you are saying they are not depreciating, how much was it new, and if it sells at 2 years old for £15,000,

what was the drop in 2 years.

ie the depreciation.

So how much was it new when it was First Registered in 2013?

Did it drop £7,000 in 3 months & 4,000 miles being a Demonstrator.?

£23,000, to £15,000 in 2 years would be an £8,000 drop would it not.

& at 4 years old will it be the usual near 50 % depreciation.?

PS

If they are offering the car for sale at £15,500 did they count what they were giving you for it at trade in as

being £14,000 ?

Ok. You know best

Nothing to do with knowing best.

Are those the relevant figures, Near £24,000 to £14,000 in 2 years and 30,000 miles on a 2013 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI Estate?

High depreciation in most peoples understanding.

Re crazy Vrs prices, 2011 Cave engines metallic green and black mk2 vrs (identical to ours) with 36k on clock was up for sale at Parks Renault in Motherwell last week with a screen price of £7995, although it did have the immortal banner emblazoned across the screen "Managers Special".

Not sure if it's still there. Quick look suggests it's sold.

George I think it's the old mk2 vRS octavia he had. I think they were about 18k new back then iirc, so would make sense that he paid around 16k for an ex-demo.

Either way I'm not sure his comment about the low depreciation is that relevant to today as I don't think anyone will be able to get a nearly new ex-demo mk3 Octy vrs for 16k!

That was my point exactly. I wasn't really talking about the mk3 as with a larger retail price and the same customer base, they were always going to sink lower over a few years.

18k new back then!?! Isn't the MK3 VRS closer to 30k?

Wow Skoda really are pricing themselves out of their own market....

Back to the MK2 Fabia VRS, the early cars are not strong on the used market, but the ex-demo or low millage 1 year old cars seem to be up for silly money!

My point was i never raised the point about Octavia vRS and depreciation someone else did.

But i did ask what car was being said did not have high depreciation and how much it cost new.

Was it £18,000?

Did they jump £5,000 when the new model was launched?

The List price on a Fabia Mk2 vRS Estate was near to £18,000 in 2013.

http://honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/skoda/octavia-vrs-2013

A Skoda Fabia vRS can be bought for around half what it cost new after 4 years.

as can an Octavia, or a Golf, or a Passat.

About the only recent VWG car that is not depreciating at the expected rate is a MK1 Fabia vRS.

If you talk about what £15,000 or £16,000 can buy you slightly used,

that is about what you want to buy, and if you want a bigger sized family car, that is different from

someone that does not want that, or a Dirty Diesel even.

Sales Reps and Commercial Traveller type cars are always going to be good as used bargains,

there are plenty to choose from.
