Crazy VRS prices!?!

Featured Replies

18k new back then!?! Isn't the MK3 VRS closer to 30k?

Wow Skoda really are pricing themselves out of their own market....

Yep, the blackline vRS was around 18k new. I think it was £17384 for a manual hatch but obviously abit more for DSG and estate versions. Still a bargain though when compared to the price of a mk3 Octy vRS!

  • Joking apart they actually are. A model in production for 4 1\2 years and less than 700 registered in the UK. Future classic.

  • only 700 estates.... mine is a "future classic" ! lol...

  • Personally I'm well up for crazy vRS prices lol. If the fact there is no mk3 vRS means ours is "last of a rare breed" and prices start to go up as a result of supply/demand then I am more than happy ;

That's twice WBAC have upped their offer for my car, citing increased demand :p.

Not selling though as could never replace it like-for-like* for what I paid for it three and a half years ago.

I got a quote once from them, they did the same.....

Just shows how low an offer they initially make is... I got way more from trading in to a dealer!

I'm getting more and more tempted to just hang on to our mk2 estate as time goes by. As you say it is very difficult to find anything of equivalent value for money!

If prices start rising significantly and the car on 0% Finance it might even start making back a little money lol!

Aye, purely out of interest I occasionally obtain a valuation. To be fair I think I'd struggle to get more in a trade-in. I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if they paid what they're offering (there or thereabouts).

I'll tell you what - Iv'e had a lot of performance cars over the years - from Porsche turbos to Panda 100hp (ok panda not a 'performance' car as such) BMW M3's, 135i, 335i, 335d etc etc and in my honest opinion the mk2 vRS punches well above its weight. It's a shame that it's had so many engine issues to tarnish it's reputation but hopefully things will settle down when VAG have worked their way through the complaints from some owners.

As others have said, it offers so many things in one package. For me the estate is preferable but nevertheless the vRS is a heck of a lot of car for the money and I think it will certainly gain a cult following.

Great cars and now Ive sorted my back ache/seat issue then I think its a keeper for a good while. If it can get through 6 months then its safe.

I had £2k 'equity' out of mine!

Depreciation is about how much someone pays then can get back for a car.

If you Buy for £18,000 & you can only get £12,000 when you sell it lost 1/3,  you get £9,000 you lost 1/2 & £6,000 you lost 2/3rd obviously.

Finance & PCP or Lease deal values are a different matter and were they show 48% depreciation as they give a Contribution

and want the car back.

Equity is not really about Depreciating, thats them Trading in Cars and selling finance as well.

& where you buy for £18,000 and they will only buy it back for £12,000,   but give you a Trade in Value of £13,000 because

they want to sell you a New Car and make Profit again, and some on the Trade in, then that is their Business.

All relative, and Dealers Sticker Prices for a Dealer Selling is not the Depreciation that is about their Business and Trading.,

For a Private buyer buying a car it is about how much it costs to buy, and how much you get for it if you sell it.

If you can buy and run a nice car for 2 years and it only cost you £3,000 in Depreciation then you are doing OK.

But if Borrowing Money and paying Interest is involved, then that can not just be ignored surely.

Cars over £18,000 or so usually cost you at least £2,500-£3,000 a year in depreciation over 3 years or more.

When you have had it 5 Years or longer as a keeper  that should have worked out less than that.

George I don't think anyone here is confusing equity and depreciation/finance.

The two however are definitely linked. If a car depreciates less than expected it will have a higher trade in value and thus be more likely to have greater equity come trade in than if used values had plummeted.

The MGFV is just a marker of the manufacturers anticipated depreciation (I.e set just below what they think it will be worth) to encourage buyers to remain with the brand by being able to roll some equity over into another deal.

Cars in finance depreciate the same as cash purchases, the only difference being the interest paid as you rightly pointed out. :-)

Can have mine in August for £7,500 ;)

One of the first registered, & a Movie star,  Still with Original Engine.

Offer it to Skoda UK. Or advertise as a 'Rare Breed',  Original and Best.

  I have one as well,

but it is 'All Original',  no Modifications,  No Breather Mod, no DSG Update.  So a Future Classic maybe.

If I could sell my two year old CTHE hatchback for £15,500 right now I'd be making £500 on the price I paid for a brand new car lol.

You can buy a Brand New one now that is Registered and a Demonstrator for under £14,000.

That is less than £1,500 less than people were paying just under 5 years ago for a new one with no or some miles on the clock.

I paid £15400 for my VRS back in July 2012* and its being traded for £8300 next month with 15,000 miles on it , thought the depreciation would be worse in all honestly. WBAC offered £7400 which i thought wasnt that bad , expected to get £7k back really

In that time I have put about 1 litre of oil in it and bought one tyre due to pothole damage, its under the servicing plan so no other bills apart from the few mods which only cost a couple of hundred.

*cruise, mats and rear parking sensors. (added sunglasses holder, storage bins, mudflaps, wind deflectors, eibachs and RARB myself)

Good Cheap motoring.

& if others want cheaper than that, there are cars out that offer that.

Those that paid, £19,000 - £21,000 plus for MK2 Fabias made that choice of Options etc, and if they are getting shot after a

short period of ownership then they can expect the sort of losses where anyone specs up vehicles.

As a percentage our previous PD170* Octavia MK2 and our CR170 Superb MK2 lost more in the first three years and in fact the Superb over 6 years has lost the same average £4k per year albeit for a lot more miles

*Dont I just pick all the best engines? LOL

I hope Skoda did not have Motoring Journalist driving ringers.

ie Putting the Same Registration plate on identical Red MK2 vRS.     Too far fetched, manufacturers would never do that!!

its just where they rolled it on the elk test, so sprayed the roof black

Not having a VRS or knowing much about them but are the prices staying ok because the buyers are not aware of the oil issues that the car has had ? I would have thought that this alone would put a lot of people off buying it until a new model with a non burning engine would come in.

But as you see people kept buying them new and used, and now they are no longer being built and people

are still buying used ones from the 3,000 or so in the UK.

Not all were faulty, and people take the gamble. if they know there is a gamble,

and a valid warranty reduced the risk of getting a bad one and having to foot a bill for over £4,000.

Plenty are out of Warranty now and have no issues.

The White Estate  64 plate 'Rare Breed', with 21 miles and an asking price of £14,717 looks like a good deal to me.

A nice looking Hatch advertised in Moon White Metallic with 775 miles & with an asking of £13990.

i was thinking about buying estate car, the issue is if it wasn't pre registered it would of actually been cheaper to buy!

Skoda had a no VAT deal and a cheap APR rate as well as a 3 year free servicing on new cars, it being registered already ment its price is more than the vat off deal and its apr would of been higher. so i didnt bother, (i bought a 62 plate with more toys and low mileage for a lot less)

Spot on, George.

I'm even considering another one but nearly-new examples appear to be rarer than hens' teeth!

I predict that used VRS Fabia prices will be pretty much like what happened to Mazda RX-8's ie fairly good residuals until either the warranty and/or goodwill is off the table and then bargain basement

At bargain-basement prices it can be well worth rolling the dice.
