Test drove a vRS today, have a couple of questions

Featured Replies

Test drove a Petrol vRS this afternoon at my Skoda dealer, 2012/62 with 15.8k miles, on for just shy of £14k. It was my first drive of a vRS, let alone a petrol. Needless to say it was a lot of fun, thoroughly enjoyed the DSG too, another first.

Car interior less impressive, backseats fine but the front had been well lived in, quite a bit of grime and marks on the leather. The white/grey seat base suede was stained a slight brown from wear on the driver seat and a little on the passenger and the base bolsters were creased. Fair bit of scuffing of hard plastics around the loading area. Exterior paintwork looked fine (but hard to see amid the dirt)

The guy had the hard sell going “it’s a two year old car after all, you have to expect some wear, you’d be better off with a new car if you’re that particular, this car is bang on in price, most others will be the same if not worse” etc.

How well can the suede be cleaned? Should I worry about creased bolsters? I had a hard time believing him that a good valet would fix all the issues and it's hard to see true potential when not properly prepped. Makes me wonder what I'll see for the similar age/mileage ones I've seen priced at £13k.

Another thing, the car was bought at auction, only one previous owner. Maybe I lack understanding, but it seems an odd way to off load a 2 year old car you had from new??

Get the dealer to prep the car and then go back and have a look. It shouldn't be that shabby at under 16,000 miles. Mines got a fair few more on than that and it looks like new inside.

that sounds quite worn for 2 years. My 56 plate vrs had less wear on it when I bought it with 67k on the clock

That salesman seems to be a bundle of laughs. When I got rid of my first vRS after 2 years it was still like new! As this was sold at auction it could have been a 'lease type' car.

I should look elsewhere.  Sounds over-priced even if the condition was better.  I paid less than £16K more than 18 months ago for a 2012 March (12) car with less than 10K mileage and in immaculate condition.  DSG and diesel (usually more expensive than petrol version).

There is a (62) petrol with DSG and less than 24K miles on Autotrader for sale by a Skoda dealer for less than £13K.

leather is poor, i had a crease in mine after just 300 miles from new, Skoda don't cover that under warranty

Thanks for the input, will take the leather creases in my stride. Still interested in any comment on how the suede type material responds to cleaning?

Might be the white one in Llandudno? Seen that and possibly worth a visit, that's about an 1hr 15 from me. There's a blue hatch in Lincoln (3hr 15 away) - both on for about £12990

There's a late 2011 blue estate, perfect spec for £12990 in Essex. Long way to go to find out it's a dog!

try posting a specific question about the cleaning in the styling and care section, that should get you the reply you're after.

Thanks, will try that too

Interior lasts quite well if looked after.

I sold mine at 7yr and the plastics were nearly mint, hardly any scratching on them. Dealer made very approving noises when I traded in. Same for the seats. The white is alcantara and can clean up quite well.

The leather side bolsters do wear and crease especially on the door side but not excessively.

A rough interior would put me off. Implies owner didn't give a ****.

I have a 2008 vrs, I will happily send you photo of my interior. I would walk, 1 what does it say about the dealer not cleaning the car and 2 it tell me the previous owner has not looked after the car.

As said, walk away and keep looking.

Cleaning wise, it should come back well with a proper interior valet. Generally with a industrial wet&dry vac. Then the white sections can be protected - ScotchGuard or similar to help keep them from attracting dirt.

But as they've obviously not bothered to prepare the car properly, suggest they're not bothered.

To be fair the dealer hadn't prepped the interior of my VRS when I first saw it, and I wasn't impressed but I warmed to the car and the leather looked alot better after the car had been valeted.

I paid £13645 for an October 2012 Blackline Estate Diesel with 32K on the clock last month.

that's **** poor condition for 2 yrs!!!

Its been abused by the sounds of it.

"Might be the white one in Llandudno?"  -  That's the one.

If the dealer is really pushing hard sell, and there is something that niggles you. Walk away.

The price/age/mileage that others have gotten is useful info.

Should probably say I'm not discounting diesel, I need a go in one to feel the differences first hand. At least with Blacklines it's simple, you know what you'll be getting spec-wise.

TBH if I was buying used I'd prefer to see the car before the dealer had got at it-that way you get a clearer view on how it was looked after by the previous owner, which in turn gives you more leverage if the dealer starts to BS that it's previously been owned by a saints....not that they do of course!

My VRS has 98k miles and is three years old next month. Apart from some creasing on the drivers seat bolster the interior is pretty much mint condition. I have the dark seat insert option.
