Fabia Estate suspension mods - if any ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

New to the forum and not much clued up on the Fabia.

I've inherited my dear pa's Fabia 1.2 3cyl 12v 53 plate estate and started using it for commute to work etc.

Love the car and think it is nippy for 1.2 3cyl estate.

Problem is l find it very wallowie around corners and during breaking the front wheels lock up easily.

l was thinking of lowering the springs abit and fitting alloys and low profile tyres to see if that would help any.

Does anyone know if this would help, or got any other ideas other than getting rid of the car ?

Can l get any lowering springs for a Fabia Estate ?

Any advice/help much appreciated.

Cheers.

Thanks for above link.

Any ideas which will be the best springs fòr a 1.2 estate ? Don't want to drop it too low, too many speed humps where l live lol.

Will vrs wheels fit my car or are they 5 stud fitment ?

Cheers.

Yes mate vrs wheels will go straight on, myself and gfwc both have modded estates, gfwc has done a lot more than me tho lol

Don't go lower than 25-30mm, I strongly suggest you get an Eibach pro-kit since it's designed to work with the standard dampers and isn't harsh at all. Replace your shocks at the same time with a set of Bilstein B4's and do the console bushes and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for advice everyone.

What are the console bushes ?

Another quick question.

If l fitted vrs or similar alloys to my estate what tyre size would you chaps recommend that won't cause issues with turning lock, wheel arch rub etc, etc.

Thanks.

205/45/16 is the best :)

Thanks for advice everyone.

What are the console bushes ?

They are the bushes that anchor the rear of front wishbone to the subframe via the alloy consoles, the standard bushes are voided and make the steering more vague.

I wouldn't recommend VRS alloys because they're 16", I'd recommend 15" alloys with 195/50/15 tyres, I use Audi A3 pepperpots. less harsh and lower gearing for the lower powered petrol engined cars.

First off, what tyres are fitted to it? Fit OEM quality sports or summer tyres to improve road holding and braking. Fit them to all 4 wheels.

Anything you do to the suspension or similar puts it into the realm of modified car insurance. Maybe do the FARB and RARB.

EDIT: I'm assuming you're a younger driver?

Also look at B & C pillar cover.

Thanks for feed back.

HHHmmmm decisions decisions. 15" or 16" ?

Vindaloo, wish l was a young driver - again.

Just turned 51. But a young 51. My other car is a Swift Sport that l've supercharged and all the works etc. producing 160 wbhp.  But the wife uses it as her daily driver. :envy:

At the moment the Fabia is fitted with standard steel wheels with winter tyres all round. :D

Best start looking on ebay then unless someone on this forum has any to sell me ?

I'd stick to 15" Jimbob - cheaper tyres that way, and a bit of 'absorption' for the bumps.

Thanks for the offer gfwc.

I'll let you know, gonna look for some alloys first. See whats on offer on the market.

By the way, like your build thread. Really like what you've done so far to your fabia estate.

Would be better to do springs plus shocks rather than just springs. Or fit midrange coilovers. Anything is likely to be better than worn out OEM. Consider a whiteline RARB.

As for wheels/tyres, I'd concentrate on tyres. Bigger wheels will concentrate mass further out and may compromise nippiness.

Another quick question.

Will VW 15" alloys fitted with 205 50 x 15 tyres fit my estate alright ?

Can't find a definitive answer in other posts on Briskoda.

cheers.

They will fit if they're 5 x 100 but those tyres will be 5mm taller.

 Thanks. Yea they're 5x100.

Any ideas on how much they would affect the speedo reading ?
