Rapid buffeting noise solution?

Featured Replies

Hi all. Newby here.

Got 14 reg 1.6TDI elegance and have some of the buffeting noise that I've read about. Also read there's a simple boot / hatchback fitting adjustment that solves it. Can someone please tell me how to do it?

Thanks.

If you open the tailgate you'll see a black bump stop either side about half way up. Use a torx bit to and loosen the screw and raise it up slightly. Tighten the screw then close the tailgate. Keep adjusting until the tailgate doesn't want to close or until it looks like the tailgate is sitting too proud of the surrounding bodywork then take it back a notch.

Thanks Delberthot. I saw them and hoped it might be that simple! Will give it a go later. Mrs B will be much happier if it works!

I eventually got the dealer to do the above fix during a service after pointing out to the technician during to test drive. Which poo pooed the idea but did it anyway and transformed the car. Like you the missus was well pleased when done (main driver just now)

But not before i had spent £40 on insulation and spent time fitting it allover boot/spare wheel well.

Great now, still a wee hint there but intend to add some insulation / damping to actual boot hatchback area if possible.

Just turn the radio up

Just wanted to say thanks for the info in here, picked up my car on Monday had had been going mad with the noise when driving. the boot adjustment has made a massive difference although it hasn't gone completely its more than acceptable.

Can you believe there are still cars out there 4 years later that haven't been sorted out.

Where the previous owners deaf?

My wife and son couldn't hear it at all so i'm guessing lots of others cant either. i'f i hadn't found this post i think i would have had to return the car. couldn't have lived with it the way it was.

I know what you mean - It took me months to learn to ignore the creaky suspension.

I've had to readjust mine last year having done the fix weeks into first owning.  I think the constant closing of the hatch will move those stops slightly.
