New Rapid Spaceback Owner

Featured Replies

Due to a change in circumstances I need a larger car so I've traded my fantastic little citigo for a Spaceback

One question my dealer couldn't tell me do the roof bars fit cars with the panoramic roof ?post-121929-0-64356100-1423987105_thumb.jpg

I would have thought you could not use the roof bars as the feet would be sitting on glass, not metal,

Nice one on the new spaceback and I think the roof bars fit inside the doors at the top there are two bolt holes at the top of door frame on all the doors well there is on my octy vRS and the new Fabia I was looking at yesterday

i would say yes as the glass is lower than the metal there are 4 screw holes under the door frame

The holes in the door frame are just for alignment and positioning of the roof bars. The load bearing bit is still the feet of the roof bars, which rest on the roof. I thought these sat inside of the raised drainage channel, which would have them pressing on glass rather than metal surely?

Hmm I'm not sure it has holes and its a rubber pad I believe

Should be able to fit my surfboard inside anyway

Sad to see my citigo go but need 5 door and larger boot to fit a wheelchair

Panoramic sunroof looks awesome and decent spec

White should be much easier to keep clean than black car lives outside

What's the 1.2 tsi 105 like on motorway

Edited by citigoblack

My wife's 1.2 tsi 105 has to have the speed warning pinger set  - otherwise she would regularly exceed the speed limit and get some points. So the answer to your motorway question is - it's fine. And the speedo appears to be pretty accurate - checked with GPS - so no chance of thinking they always underread, either.

Ok - I've been studying the picture of the genuine Skoda Rapid roof bars - the foot of each bar sits half on the raised drainage channel, half on the lower main roof (which on the panoramic Spaceback would be glass). On that basis, I am a lot more confident that roof bars are not useable on the car. Also, If the alignment holes are not present in the upper door frame of each door opening, that is also a major indicator that Skoda did not intend for roof bars to be used with the panoramic Spaceback.

Also, regards the 1.2 TSI 105 on the motorway - I was out west of Basingstoke for a Pistonheads meet - at one stage I noticed that the car was doing substantially more than the speed limit and wasn't even breaking a sweat. Suffice to say I brought it back down to 70.

Mine has done 10,000 miles and had its first service a few weeks ago. It's really starting to loosen up now engine wise and it goes effortlessly like a rocket given the chance.

cheers for info it has the mounts in all door openings but that might do with saving on tooling i suppose no biggie just thought it might be handy

couple more questions

is there any special way of caring for the glass roof ie rainex or something ?

wish it had black wheels was looking at that plasticoat stuff anybody used it or is powder coat better option ?

I've used Plastidip but wouldn't use it on wheels. They'd need to be powder coated. [emoji106]

A good glass sealant will make cleaning (and keeping clean) the glass roof so much easier. It will also help prevent water spots from staining the glass.

Don't waste your time with RainX - it's cheap smeary crud that doesn't last long at all (which is why Halfords stock it).

Try one of these instead:

I used the autoglym glass guard that comes with the lifeshine kits; worked well so far.

TP

I must try this too on the windows as I've only used the AG glass polish so far.

Speedo is not consistent car to car -  mine's 3/4 mph slow on average compared with GPS.  The 105 has the poke for motorways alright but starts to guzzle gas over 75.

never seen a spaceback or rapid in wild place an order saturday and a saw 2 spacebacks and a rapid this morning all in about 5 minutes on the same road ??

also saw a new fabia in that blue colour very nice

guess its the holidaymakers as its half term

does the glass roof offer any UV protection at all?

Often the way - I had not consciously seen a Rapid until I bought one, same with the Citroen C4.

On my panoramic roof the drainage channel is still there the glass is about 8/10mm away from the metal and there are screw holes under the door frame for a roof rack screws

It's got good light protection I think. The glass roof is excellent [emoji106]

There are blindes that you can close one for the front and one for the back and the glass is dark tinted i had no problem last summer

I like the design of the blinds. It's a great idea [emoji4]
