1.4 TSI

Featured Replies

The Folks are looking at replacing their aging Mk1 SLXi and have seen a 2011 1.4TSI 22.5k on the clock for a bit under £6k.

This doesn't seem a bad price, we know the seller, know the history and know it's in good shape.

The only issue I know of is this was one of the cars that had the rear wheel issue where the tyres get worn into three pence piece shape.  Is there a solution to this?

Strange, I recall there being lots of posts a couple of years back about the rear tyres on these cars getting worn out because of the geometry.

Now I can't find much at all and there's no responses.

I had a 2010 1.4TSI and never suffered any problems with the rear tyres getting worn down. I had to replace the front tyres as you would expect, but not the rears and when I sold it at 20k on the clock, the rears still had plenty of life left in them. £6k for that car seems pretty good value for money (depending on the spec of course) as it's a cracking little engine, and plenty big enough for the Octavia.

Paid £7000 for my 2011 on a 60 plate as well with 49,000 on the clock. Great car but yours sounds a bargain.

Some Octavias suffered from 'sawtoothing' of the back tyres resulting in excessive tyre noise.  From memory this showed up more on the vRS than other models, possibly due to wider tyres.  This can be solved by a proper four wheel alignment by someone who knows what they're doing.

My 2012 1.4Tsi has no issues with uneven tyre wear. 25k miles on original tyres. Down to about 2.5mm on the front and 4mm at the back. Wear even on all 4 tyres as far as I can see. It has 195/65s fitted.

I've had mine since it had 6k miles. No issues at all. Other than 1 service I've replaced a number plate bulb. Major service and new set of tyres due shortly.

I paid £8k (£8.5k before maybe generous trade-in) for a 2010 1.4 TSi elegance (inc steering wheel buttons) in Sept 2013 from a dealer at 50k-ish miles. Much quieter than the year 2000 Renault Scenic I had before, quite a bit faster, ,though I miss being high up.

I test drove a different one that made a bad wailing sound from the back at 40 mph, probably the "sawtoothing" that people have mentioned. Mine is fine though.
