Radio fascia adapter?

Featured Replies

Sorry, I'm new and full of questions...

Simply, to swap the radio for my Sony single DIN unit, will my 2004 Octavia 1 need a fascia adapter?

What radio are you installing?, single or double din?.

Single

Provided you still have any trim facias that came standard with the Sony radio, you should not need one. I have an Alpine in my vrs and I don't use one. the only issue you may have is that the Sony may be a deeper radio, and so may bottom out on the plastic frame at the back of the dash opening.

When this happened to me, I did as others on here have done, and simply cut away the bit of frame that was in the way as it only supports the standard radio.

Cool, thanks for that! I'm assuming I'll need a wiring harness adapter though...

I'm on with changing the standard head unit at the moment as well. I'm also unsure about an iso adaptor. I'm changing to a pioneer unit as it has usb/aux etc rather than a tape deck!! But that unit plugs straight into the cars wiring. I still need an aerial booster so I'm waiting on that arriving and i might have to swap the red and yellow wires around as you lose radio station memory i think. But i did phone halfords yesterday and told him the car and he said they havnt needed to use a harness for ages.

Yeah you will need a harness adapter - halfords do them for about £5-10 - swapped the standard HU in mine for a sony with the adapter and everything working fine.

You may need to get an aerial booster lead if you intend on listening to the radio a lot also you will need to swap a couple of cables in the adapter for the switched and permanent live

Yeah switched and permanent is the red and yellow wires i need to swap. Do you know the code number for the harness you used? I ordered a one of ebay but it doesn't fit my car wiring. The seller says there is two different types for the octavia.

Pc-2-69-4 is the one i have but its different connectors.

Can't remember which one I got as it was quite a few years ago.

If you could post pictures of the back of your Skoda HU and the Sony HU where the plugs go in it might make things a bit easier to identify which adapter should fit

My Alpine unit was already ISO compliant - even physically double checked the ISO pin out against the K-line diagram on here, so no adapter needed, only a swap of the lives already mentioned.

You'll need the Sony Harness that comes in the box. This should have the all the correct wires and have the wire connector on the yellow and red to swap them around so it saves the radio stations. This ISO connector also has the green and purple wires so the rears will also work.

Simply going to Halfords and buying the Skoda harness/iso connector will result in the wrong type as the connector block is for the original radio.

Ask the radio installer in store for the Sony iso connector and tell him your model no. (although I think they are all the same for the Sony's) that it simlpy connecting the plugs together and pushing the radio in.

**If you also want the radio you'll need the Arial adapter/booster and connect that to the blue wire on the iso connector.

Here is a video which hopefully will help you;

Yes, I should have worded my reply better to say the Alpine loom in the box was ISO compliant and did not need an adaptor. as Dean20VT said the standard radio loom should be all you need.

You might want to consider dropping out the glove box so that you can get your hand behind the aperture for the radio to feed the cables in without pinching them.

Yeah went into halfords today as my son's mate works there. He happens to have a very nice fabia vrs and he fits the stereos in store. He's definate an iso connector isn't needed just red/yellow wires to swap over plus the mentioned aerial booster. The pioneer loom does have bullets on the live and constant.

Great! I'll give this a bash at the weekend. Just glad I don't have to mess about with hi-lo adapters and stuff, like I did when I put it in my Bose equipped Alfa 156...

Keep us up to date how you get on. I'll be fitting my pioneer this weekend as well without an iso connector. I'll let you know how it goes.

Argh, what a slow reply from me (sorry). Yep, it went straight in with no additional wiring, just swap the red and yellow as mentioned. Didn't use an ariel booster, still picks up stations though?

Tbh the biggest hassle was putting the cage in, it was *very* tight and I had to bend it to get it in, and straighten it back out when it was in position. Is this normal?

Slow from me too! Mine went in last weekend with no iso adaptor as well. I also swapped red/yellow wires no issues with memory. However i did use an aerial booster but m/w reception is terrible. Fm is fine so I'm not too bothered. The cage was also a bit of a squeeze on mine too but with all the tabs bent back its solidly mounted which is good. No tape deck now though usb/aux in for me now i must be catching up with modern technology!! I'm sure I've shaved a little off my 0-60 time as well with all those cd's out of the glove box!

I carefully did this to mine as well, all good if your careful.
