MOT and tyres

Featured Replies

Not really as I get them at cost price :D

Jammy git

I was more shocked at the lack of an advisory on the rear brakes. They're not exactly bonny and usually a hint of grime is enough to get "slight pitting to disks" on the advisory note and sales push for replacement.

Yeah sometimes I've had advisories before and have been close to saying 'but what about the...' but decline to do so.

The windscreen fail is a bit harsh, if it's not affecting the drivers view it shouldn't fail, have a read of this special notice:

The tester can only take a tread depth measurement in a primary groove that is within the centre 3 quarters of the tread.  Have a look at the testers manual of the definition of tyre tread and what can be measured:

I had to pass this the other day, I didn't want to , but I could only justifiably advise it.

Funnily enough that was on a Jaguar.

I do think they were picky ******s. It's in the swept area but in no way could be consider to obstruct my view since its in the sunshade band anyway.

I don't see the problem really as they didn't fail it on tyres..

Legal limit is 1.6mm they advised 2.1 and 2.3mm.

Maybe they were incorrect readings but at 2.1mm you only have 0.5mm before it is illegal.

It could be down to that in a few hundred miles depending how you drive it.

The tyre manufacturers and no doubt main dealers would recommend changing them far sooner.

Think yourself lucky, if you got a traffic cop on a bad day he could take you to court for it as it contravenes Construction and Use Regs.

I think he'd be more upset at me trying to drive looking through that bit.

Anyway getting a new one on the 25th.

CU regs state :

(3)  All glass or other transparent material fitted to a motor vehicle shall be maintained in such condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver while the vehicle is being driven on a road.

The damage as described and viewed with reference to the MOT special notice , here:

Says to me that that Coppers day will get worse by making such a monumental **** up, which would likely be compounded when he attempts to measure the tread depth on a tyre on part of it which isn't a primary groove.
