Oops, may be a NIP and fine in the post I think

That referred to the inaccuracy of the speedo, i.e. 30mph zone, allow 2mph for equipment accuracy, = 32 mph, so lets say zero tolerance, so speed to start handing out NIPs at 33, so 33mph, + 10% speedo inaccuracy, vehicle will display 36 mph, surely anybody doing 36 in 30 will be knowingly speeding? and thats just the minimum at which prosecution starts, so essential if we do +2

35mph +10% speedo accuracy would be showing 38.5mph (analog speedo would be in the reagion or 39 and digital one, may, automatically round it up). So basically what your suggesting is that anybody doing under 39mph in a 30 wouldn't notice they're speeding?, I mean I would notice if my speedo said 35 or even 32, but to not notice the speedo was displaying 39, surely that's driving without due care and attention?

No that's not what I'm saying, what I'm saying is that within 10% in terms of actual speed (33 or under in a 30) has to be judged on circumstances and not just automatically sent for prosecution . In no way do I condone 39 in a 30 or 40 in a 20. The +2 doesn't count in a 30, or at least it didn't for my dad when he got prosecuted at 33.5 having initially queried the allowance 10% +2. By the way if I ever get caught speeding beyond the allowance can I have the phone number of your brief please?

Yea but that's the thing, you won't get anything for an actual speed of 31,32 anyways due to tolerance for camera equipment, so if you were to get done, to get done your actual speed would be 33 with an indicated speed of 36.

To be honest. My only hope is that they were targeting one of the cars near me and not me. But I am clutching at straws really. Lol.

Were the other cars faster than you/overtaking you? lol

If so, most likely

No. It was the other way around. Lol.

I was sort of beside them gradually overtaking when I saw the camera van and eased off but chances are I was already zapped by then tbh. Was probably doing an indicated 85.

Lmao definitely clutching at straws there

And that's the way it should stay is what I've been inferring all along.

No. It was the other way around. Lol.

If you were clearing traffic for a valid reason? That may be in your favour, depends I guess.

to be honest, all I can do is laugh myself. will just have to take my punishment and try and be more careful. lol

Ouch...

Ah, well take it from a serving police officer with 9 years service, I've never met an officer that would report for speeding less than acpo policy as the force wouldnt support it. Also if you get road side reported but recieve nothing further, it's isnt the cps that's let you off, it's the officer.

I think the above spells out that zero tolerance does not exist. I agree with this from my experience although I have been retired over 15 years now.  There was a Chief Constable in Wales who was an advocate of zero tolerance on speed but could not go ahead with it.  You cannot be expected to know exactly what speed you are doing within a 10% accuracy above the limit.  In fact those of you that have checked your cars speed with a gps device will see that generally they are accurate to within 2 to 3%.  To comply with the law your speedo cannot read slow ie it cannot show you are doing 28 when you are doing 30 as that would obviously lead you to break the law everytime you drive.  Also a speedo can never be 100% accurate as things like tyre pressure and tyre wear alter the physical size of your tyre.  Hence the 10% margin allowed by law.

I think we are getting into semantics now and going around in ever decreasing circles which will not get us anywhere no matter what speed we are doing. :D

Well, two and half weeks and no NIP at the office (registered owner / keepers), so maybe on the right side of the borderline or the guy might have been having a sandwich or something.

Did you get anything Roblatus?

No. Nothing yet. Starting to think I am in the clear

Didn't see him with a radar gun as I passed, but he looked poised when I spotted him :( :(

I'd be surprised if he was on a bike and taking number plates down, I'd expect him to be zapping then going after anyone he thought was taking the **** for the conditions? Fingers crossed he was in the hunt for a 3 figure loon....

Temporary 40 limit. He'd have caught a lot where he was. Zaps them, and takes it back to the station for someone to process apparently.

I thought bikes had to stop you, but a search when I got home says not. :(

FYI Wiltshire and Devonshire, seem to love bikers with cameras according to Google.
