Bigger rims than spec affect range, fuel..?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The odometer is synced when driven with 16" wheels on our Superbs II i pressure. But if you put on 17", 18" or 19", what affects on respectively wheel?

Like, does the odometer count higher or lower kilometers and in wich percentage?

Thanks

It is the diameter or the wheel and tyre combination that matters. Different width/aspect ratio (ie height of the tyre's side wall) are specified for the different rim sizes so that any differences in the practical circumference is tiny compared with the tolerance in the speedo/odometer.

You should keep the rolling radius the same so if you increase the wheel diameter you should decrease the profile

There is a calculator here

The specs are 205/50 16" and the ones I have are 225/45 17"

Edit: Calculator says that the 17" are 3,75% wider in diameter than the spec 16".

So when my odometer says 200km, the actual range was 3,75% more?

0,38%! The spec are 205/55, not 50. Sry.
