Hardwiring dash cam

Featured Replies

Just wondering what the best way to hardwire a dash cam would be into a 2012 VRS?

Where is the best switched live and is there a plug and play wiring kit you can buy?

My fuse box layout seems to be slightly different to yours:

As there are no switched lives on the far RH side, I don't really have room for a fuse tap.

Using a circuit tester however I noticed there are a couple of vacant switched live feeds on the LH side. Was thinking of using an in line fuse holder (with an 8 amp glass fuse), crimping a small spade terminal on the end of it and pushing it into one of these.

Work out which one is the rear wiper and use that (I'm assuming you have a rear wiper of course).  Seems to be the most popular fuse to use.

As above, most people use the rear wiper fuse.

This is what I've done and it works OK , could not find a switched live anywhere else in the fuse box that had the normal size fuse

Yeah as I have no switched lives whatsoever on the RH side where there's space for a fuse tap I used one of the vacant switched lives on the LH side.

I used a 25 amp breakout fuse and crimped it to an in line fuse holder which I put the original 8 amp glass fuse from the cigarette lighter plug of the adaptor into.

Works 100%:

Buy a mini piggyback fuse!

Why would I need to piggy back off another socket when there are 2 vacant ones?

Actually I used a mini piggyback in an empty slot to make quicker to remove if required. I also have a parrot kit and brodit active holder and I wired both of these into unused switched live mini fuse positions using VAG repair wires.
