Featured Replies

Hi I have a skoda felicia 1.3 lx carburetor modrl just pulled out alternator and disassembled. It doesnt have voltage regulator on inside just the one on the outside ? And another wuestion my alternator pulley turns both ways is this bad ? Thanks

Yeah, it has 'just' the one on the outside. The alternator is one of those that don't have one inside and another outside...

my alternator pulley turns both ways is this bad ?

Well, let me see... ummm... it MUST be good if it is connected solid to the shaft.

Did you take it out because "the gearbox got a little noisy as all the gears are whirring when engine is revved"? Or is it unrelated?

Ok thanks. Nope why would I do that lol ? I did it because my lights seem a bit dim my headlights I mean and wondered if the brushes on inside were worn but found out that it hasnt got..

Can you get a volt-meter to check output of alternator?

Could be battery not holding it's charge, so get that checked too.

Battery changed 4 months ago and voltage regulator was chajged also 5 months ago but well I guess the felicia headlights are just crap

I guess the felicia headlights are just crap

Do you have any TECHNICAL argument for that? Enlighten us.

Well they are dim even though I changed 3 different bulbs

Dim compared to what reference?

How old is the headlamp housing?

Is the reflector 'mirror' coating in top shape?

Is the glass clean?

Are the headlights correctly aimed?

dim compared to my dad's 30 year old car for exmple.. headlamp housing is in tip top shape, reflector cleaned as well glass is like new and well i dont know if they are aimed well, they are aimed in the middle i would say not too high not too low, im sorry im jumping out of subject but my felicia right now is having a bit of oil on sparrk plug issue, just on one cylinder, this means oil seal problem ?

Reflector cleaned? How did you clean it?

About spark plug issue, best would be to replace it temporarily (even with an older one). If you didn't keep old spark plugs, clean it with gasoline, dry it well, watch for any cracks, put it back, torque it at 30Nm (that means easy on the wrench) and drive 40-50 km on a highway. Have a look again.

reflector is the silver square thing around the bulb right ? i cleaned it witth a microfibre cloth, oh i already cleaned the plug and put it in again it was with oil again just on one plug only, can it be a bad gasket of some sort? as it having an oil consumption issue.. thanks

Normally you don't touch the reflector with anything... The aluminium coating is VERY thin and it is easy to peel it. Me personally, I don't even breathe on it. If you are confident the coating is undamaged and shiny as new, check headlight connectors for corrosion and (mandatory!) check the voltage on battery with headlights on. Measure, don't rely on 'the parts are new, etc'. If something is crap, it is the aftermarket parts.

If you are 100% the spark plug is good, two things might be the cause, the valve stem seals or the piston rings. Check the service manual for info.

Oh thats bad the cylinder head was replaced or that doesnt change anything?

If you REALLY want advice and useful answers, give us all the information on cylinder head replacement such as why? when? who? where? how many miles? what machining involved? what new parts? The less info you give, the less answers you get. Didn't you learn anything from past topics? I guess not.

The headlights are crap. Most of the reason is current delivery because the wires are long and thin. I boughtva separate loom for mine with thicker wires and bigger relays and it made a big difference.

I don't get it. Why are the headlights crap when in fact you criticize the wiring??

it was replaced because it was blown and leaking alot it was replace year and a half ago by my trusted mechanic it was bought new well concerning miles I didnt really know for sure because I bought it from a dwaler and you know what those do to the mile meter it was 110k miles when I bought it and its been mine for almost 2 years I guess I did 20k miles more

It is very unlikely that piston rings failed only on one cylinder. Yet there is a remote possibility the rings got their gaps aligned.

It is more likely that one or both valve stem seals failed. Tell your trusty mechanic that when a head gasket is replaced at 110k miles, it is highly recommended to change ALL valve stem seals ($4 for all).

PS Clicking on FELICIA HEADLIGHTS TUNING photo will reveal a secret.

What felicia headlight tuning ?

  • Author

Is it a difficult job for the valve stem seals replacement ?

  • Author

Oh thats great you know how cause I would like to do it myself If I can thanks

I didn't say YOU could do it, I said a mechanic could do it without taking the head out. It's an 1 hour job.

Where are the seals located ? I mean when removing the rocker cover from the engine where do you have to look ?
