Fluctuating revs and electrical problem

Featured Replies

Got a 1.9tdi 100 PD polo

Recently it's has been not itself, sometimes when idling or when I change gear and revs drop down to idle the engine has been reving around 1100 1150 rpm rather than the usual 850 900 rpm this only happens sometimes it isn't all the time.

Second issue is the speedo keeps on loosing the time and miles done etc everytime it is switched off

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a charging problem to me. Do you see the battery light in the cluster illuminate when you turn the ignition on, and go out once the engine starts?

I have the same engine

Could be maf sensor! Mine needed cleaning. Runs fine now. As for other problem sorry no idea

Wino, yes the battery light comes on and goes off once started

If you havent done it before. Make sure ts completely dry before replacing. Could be egr needing a clean

Get it scanned. Check coolant temperature and fuel temperature sensors or just change them. They ain't expensive. Also worth wondering about the accelerator pedal. If it's a later model, say 2006-ish, these have been known to have faults.

Also, also, check your battery terminals and earthing cables and points. And the solid fuses on top of the battery for cracks.
