Can gateway coding

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am new to forum and I found it very helpful

I own Skoda Octavia 1.9 this 2005 and recently decided to fit sat navigation. I bought Columbus :-D and can wait to install it. I also bought GPS and adaptor antenna plus new can gateway to avoid battery drainage(all info I found it on this forum). I think gateway needs to be coded and my question is - Is there anyone who would do it for me, Southend on Sea Basildon area and how much it will cost

Thanks

Find someone in or local to Essex in the VCDS section. I did it, or partly did it for someone recently. I say partly because there was something slightly incompatible I think. Should do it for free really, but might be nice to give whoever does it a drink...

Thanks for info

will definitely check it

I have Columbus part number 3T0 035 680 B with SW 4024. I read somewhere that there is no need for can gateway replacement and coding with some SW

is that is a case with 4024.

It depends if it the firmware has been modified to allow for it, some copies of it have some haven't.  I know some who have had battery drain in a 2005 car using 4024 and some who haven't.

The best way is to test for current draw on the battery 30 mins after switch off if you have the right type of multimeter, or see if it starts in the morning if not (preferably on as morning when its not needed and you can leave it pointing down a hill so it is easy to bump start!).

I do not have multimeter and hills where I live to perform safe bump start:-( there are some but narrow short and people drive like maniacs

i also have one more question

Sat nav I bought came damage - white antenna output(earth i think ). Silver bit that is inside. seller said that it should work, but I am not sure. He started claim with courier so I can not fit it and check if is working or not

I live in Wales so not having hills is alien to me!!

It's not an earth, it's your radio antenna. If the silver bit is gone and it is the inside of the two white connectors then you may be screwed for reception as I don't believe a separate part is available cheaply and that is also the power source for the aerial. KBPhoto had a similar problem and unsuccesfully looked everywhere for the part cheaply (but I think in his case, it was the outside one of the two). I suggest sending it back if so.

It is outside one, so that should work

I was trying to upload photos but I do not know how.

The outside one is the diversity connection which provides AM, and backup for FM in poor reception areas. On your car you are unlikely to have such an aerial but it means that you can't use a splitter from the main aerial to get AM.

You need to be in full editor mode using the desktop version to load a photo I believe.

The double White connector is for FM (nearest GPS connector) and AM/FM (the other one).

I used just the FM connector in my pre-FL Octavia for a while quite successfully.

I then fitted two antenna and had both as well as diversity switching for a while but broke a pin in the centre of the FM/AM connector and was reduced to one antenna again.

To replace them you need a combined double white and single blue connector block (I have one on my desk and will photograph it later) which needs to be soldered to the main board in place of the broken one.

Cost is about £40 delivered.

I got a spare one for jerbear on here but he had problems after opening his Columbus and, I think, killed an internal component. I'm waiting before I do mine as I don't have sufficient time to be ultra careful at the moment.

Unfortunately no where near Essex to be able to help with coding the gateway. Sorry.

I knew you would be along soon! I would recommend an earth strap when doing that job mate. They are cheap on eBay.

I'll be dismantling the unit myself (with an earth strap or equivalent) and will be handing the soldering over to someone better than myself at these things.

Here's some picture of the part in question and a link to the only place I could find them for sale.

In the next picture you can see the three thin pins inside the metal sleeves. My Columbus (2010) did not have the metal sleeves and consequently I managed to bend and snap one of the pins.

To be clear, the one nearest the blue GPS connector is for FM and, if your car only has one antenna, is the one I recommend you use for best reception.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all info very handy

I am not electrician and my understanding of Physics very bad  . I am better with History Geography Anatomy :sun: . I definitely will not be doing anything with it. If something I will handover to someone who knows what he is doing.

Antenna connector nearest to GPS connector is fine so FM should be working fine. Originaly I have single antenna in my car but also bought this  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400621021064?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT as I read somewhere that I will need it but now I do not think so.

Seller made a claim now ( PArcelForce) and maybe they will want to inspect sat nav so I can not fit in now and I am stuck.

I just pick up a new fascia trim from Skoda ( only £6  :sun: ) and I have everything to instal it but I can not.

Guys can u tell me if £50 for gateway coding is ok.

A bit pricey but if you can't find anyone wirh vcds from here, not the worst.

Can i install gateway code it now and later on install sat nav

Yes but will need to code columbus again

  • Author

by coding u mean unit 4 dig code or something else

Code it to the vehicle with VCDS for full integration and functionality.

Use the adapter; it will fool the VCDS scan into thinking that both antenna are connected and may improve reception on FM and possibly allow AM reception.

I did not know that is a case. I though it is plug and play (coding only gateway )  as my car does not have a Maxidot.

My new gateway number is: 7N0 907 530AN - is this correct one?

Will use adapter as will hold it in place better

I found this guys http://www.rns510repairserviceuk.com/ . They quote me £110 including fitting. Of course I will have to pay for delivery

I ve contacted few more but I am still waiting for price

If you havent got maxidot it may be enough to add Columbus to the gateway installation list. But always worth going through the coding options if you can. The gateway is probably ok, its pretty new.
