Re setting engine management light ?

Featured Replies

Hi

I just had the throttle body and EGR valve replaced on my car and drove car home.  The engine management light came on - when I spoke with the garage they have said that this may happen as they don't have the equipment required to re set the computer.  They said that someone is coming to the garage on Friday that can do this .

The garage that repaired the car is not a Skoda dealer.

Does this sound correct or are they just going to pull the wool over my eyes ?

They are absolutely correct. You need to have the Egr removed from the car electronically.

I need the same but don't want to spend the money yet as saving up for a full re-map at the same time taking mine from 140 to 175bhp

Is this because they aren't main dealers ?

If so, I have a question - does this happen at every garage and if so ...why aren't lots of people driving round with EML on ?

Yes they need the vcds to remove it from the system.

There are more knowledgable people here but if I recall they need the correct software not just diagnostics equipment to remove the EGR from the engine management system.

It costs about £90 to get removed I think.

Depends how bothered you are about having the light on or not.

I removed my egr and cooler a few months ago and will get round to the remap at sum point.

I'm sure there are a few who like me just wait until a remap or just are in no rush to have the EGR removed from the system.

Why did you have them replaced? Was the engine management light on previously?

I'm in Yorkshire if you want the light turning off btw.

I apologise I mis interpreted I thought you had the EGR removed lol not replaced.

So ignore my previous posts

I disconnected mine for fault diagnosis purposes and you may find that the next full drive cycle you do it may reset on its own, mine did but not guaranteed.

Had them replaced as it started making a noise ...when engine switched off ....like someone drilling.  Engine light came on then .

Not a good sign if they replaced the parts but didn't actually diagnose them as faulty. Any decent garage would have diagnostic equipment to scan for relevant faults and clear fault codes. Like I said, I can do it for you if necessary.

They did scan for fault codes and cleared the codes but one has come back - they say that they need the equipment to tell the car computer that the part has been replaced.

I am gonna run for a day or so and they are going to get someone to clear the codes

Well, doesn't sound right to me I'm afraid. But as long as they sort it for you.
