Creaking noise from steering

Featured Replies

My almost new Roomie sounds like a galleon ship when turning the steering wheel at low speeds, for example when parking. It is worse when turning the wheel from lock to lock. It creaks and groans. The car owned from new by me has had a gentle life and only travelled 7000 miles. Any ideas?

May be suspension bushes. My 07 1.9  Scout started creaking when moving from cold this winter for the first time,on turning the steering and putting the clutch in.After a few miles the noise would vanish. Now a few months on the noise is there all the times at every movement of the car.. Not to bothered will look at it in the summer. Now you would expect this with my car at 50,000 miles,as the bushes are known to fail at this mileage, but yours at 7000 miles does seem strange. If its under warranty ask the dealer to check it out.

Lubrication with a special spray may help but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know which one.

Thanks Bob. I am on variable servicing so it has not had its first service yet. I will mention it then

Looking at other threads ,Silicone with PFTE spray is the thing to use.Found an old  can in my garage ,and just before setting out for a long trip, sprayed the console bush back and front with the spray,on the side the noise was coming from. And noise was gone!           I dare say it will come back but at least I know what it is,and that nothings going to drop off the car in the meantime

Fabias made in the last year or so have suffered from this, due to a manufacturing defect -  lack of lubrication in steering ball joints, I presume the track rod ends but could be other steering related bits. Skoda UK usually replace then FOC under warranty, whether the dealer messes up the steering geometry is another issue....

Had it fixed under warranty yesterday. Mine was the second roomie which they had to do in the same week. They had to replace the steering rack arms. The car drives more sharply now without the inclination to wander. I had a Yeti 4x4 diesel as the courtesy car and found it bulbous and unwieldy and pleased to get the roomie back.
