Why do Skoda get all the limelight?

Featured Replies

what makes the furby vrs so good performance wise? a remapped one 0-60 in 6.6ish secs!! there are other vag pd130's eg golf and polo and A3, but why do the skodas steal the lime light? you dont here of many remapped golfs for example with so good aledgid 0-60 times? why is this? also when they do car comparisons in mags the vrs is always thrown in with the big boys!!

My view for what its worth (not much)

Most of the other VAG cars you mention don't come in any specific sport styling or model name (with a PD130 etc) I havent forgotten about GTI's, S3's etc. You could argue that the Polo GT is a sport styled vag car hwoever you cant really tell any difference for ma normal polo.

Where the Fabia vRS differs is it can be visually distinguished from the lower specced/alternative fabia models and is recognised as a performance model because of the slightly lower suspension, chrome tailpipe, 16" alloys, bigger bumpers, interior, vRS badges etc. I think it has more to do with the way the car is marketed

maybe cause you wouldnt expect a skoda to be that fast?

(hides before i get jumped)

i guess because its one of the smaller cars with the PD 130. but then again im not sure why the Seats are not mentioned more as they have similar and more in some cases

Might be because its the cheapest? More bang for your buck and all that?

Why compare a remapped golf when you can compare the same engined vRS and show the huge price difference?

The words "deisel" and "quick" aren't seen together too ofter (although more and more each day it seems)

Ad the word "Skoda" and you've got something that leaps of the page at you.

When it was on top gear they could have chosen any of the vag pd130 to use as a comparrison against the mini.

They chose the Skoda Because its a Skoda!

I think the Furby vRS is a little bit of a cult car, it's got the aforementioned sporty bits and it's very affordable, plus the styling all sits quite well together. In short it has a bit of character. You can't level that on many modern cars. So it's flavour of the month for a while until something else a bit different comes along. The original Golf GTI wasn't really the fastest or most original car at the time, but it all gelled together at the right price at the right time and became a cult car. I doubt the Furby vRS will ever reach the same levels of desireability but it has a similar character (and a black roof lining!).

As said, most of the other cars using the same engine aren't especially different to their brothers and sisters and aren't such cracking value new. It came along at the right time, at the right price with the right look. Simple as that, like so many other 'fashion' trends and styles.

If you go onto other VAG forums you will see much made of other VAG cars but little or no mention of the Fab vRS. Same with other manufacturers. Don't forget the Polo sells well, but not generally to car enthusiasts in great numbers, where as the Fabia will because of the above reasons, plus the Polo lives in the Golf's shadow and the 130 TDI in Golf circles is well respected but well below the best engine on offer, so again lives in the shadows. The Furby doesn't live in the shadows of anything except the badge itself. The Octavia is percieved as a much bigger car, and the Superb is a much bigger car, plus there's nothing a size below it in the range, where VW have the Lupo/Fox and SEAT had/have the Arosa.

Because the Polo GT is DULL!

They do an Ibiza with a 160PS variant of the 1.9 TDI but you dont hear much about that.

Because you're reading a Skoda site ;) I'm sure if you went on similar SEAT, VW, etc sites you'd see them boasting about their car's performance

Chris

You don't hear about it much in general is what I mean. The fabia does have a big following but the SEAT is always in the background.

Some of the seats look nicer, others don't - the sporty ones generally look decent enough.

I feel that if the seat's build quality was 'as good as' Skoda's (excluding the lemon ones) they'd be more competitive.

I've always been amazed that VW group is able to 'balance' the brands in this way, with their vast range of models.

They aren't with SEAT, looks there may be trouble on the horizon for SEAT, been some worrying reports about selling SEAT if the profitability does not improve in europe.

I guess it's coz they came out with one the first performance taka units. You would never expect to get your a** kicked by a diesel now would ya?
