1.4l TSI Skoda Octavia Estate 2010

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am hoping to become an Octavia driver pretty soon and my wife and I are going to look at a Octavia TSI SE Estate 2010 on Saturday. It has 64,000 miles on the clock and is on for just under £7k. I was wondering if anyone has some advice on what i should be looking out for?

My current car is a 2002 Honda Jazz which I bought 4 years ago and it has given me nothing but problems. Are there any flaws in this model from that year? For example bearings, gearbox etc? I have heard only great things about the Octavia although I heard the same about the Jazz.

Also I think the price seems a bit high for a car with as many miles on the clock. I am hoping to get it for nearer £6k.

I would love to hear some advice if that is possible?

Thanks

64K high on a 5 year old car??? Really????

Octavias have been great for many years... I'm still driving around in my 1.9 TDI PD. it's an 05 plate with 235K since new (only delivery miles on when I drove it out of the show room) and averaging 60+mpg (combined).

There are a few niggling electrical problems like reversing sensor fault (takes time I haven't got to strip down to get at them to change the faulty ones), EGR fault (not really affecting anything but suspect a failed MAF sensor) and a few cosmetics (drivers side interior door panel split, anti-corrosion coating coming off the front of the sills etc) All in all, at 10 years old next month the car owes me nothing... guestimate on total purchase price + MOT + repairs is approx. £20,000 (bearing in mind the cost new was 14K).

Work that has been done as follows:

Brake disks changed twice (worn out)

brake pads changed Rear - twice (worn out) Front - four times (worn out)

Clutch - twice (second time had a conversion kit from DMF to standard)

Timing belt - once (at 120,000)

Battery - once (lasted 8 years from new)

Not everyone has such a good record judging by some of the posts in here but as you can see from my experience They're reliable, economical to run and can be great fun to throw around when you feel a bit thrashy!!! had mine up to 135mph on a track day..... tbh, it does get a bit light on the steering at that sort of speed though..

The 1.2 & 1.4 TSI appears to be possibly the least trouble free engines in the Octavia range. Don't know if its any good to you but I paid 7K for my 2011 with 49,000 on the clock and I felt I had paid about £500 to much to be honest.

Also listen out for timing chain rattle on start up when the engine is cold as the tsi engine has a chain instead of a belt.

Thanks for the replies. I decided not to go with it. Dealer would only come down £150. I wasnt sure on the service history as there seemed to be 2 different types of handwriting on the same page on the current service and next service required. I thought it was over priced by about a grand compared to others available.

Am now looking at a 1.6l 2011 TSI with 52k on the clock but with a partial service history missing a service at 40k but serviced at 18k and 52k - leave well alone or give it a chance? Is a missing service stamp a big no no?

Thanks
