best oil for vrs? #shell ultra?

Featured Replies

Best oil for the Vrs? I want to pair the vpower nitro fuel from shell with their oil, however their site only states one semi synthetic version which when I queried via email a member from she'll stated their mid range oil meets the required vw spec for this car. However they do an ultimate range which I'm interested in however I'm unsure which would suit the vrs. Ideally the ultimate would be the synthetic not semi as I do a lot of short journeys and their range is badged as good for short trips.

Anyone else noticed this or found which is suitable? Or if there's anything better for that matter.

I'm due to install the gearbox shim next week and if the shaft has damaged anything I'll need to replace the oil to ensure no metal filings are present as a result.

Engine oil?

Gearbox oil?

Engine oil and yeah I noticed the shell one however they don't do it in the ultra range :/

What's the spec to meet for gearbox oil? I'm looking to add the shim to my gearbox to reduce the dreaded shaft movement. As such I'm looking to replace the gearbox oil in case there is any metal filings in there from damage. What's the capacity I need for these? I think the engine oil was 4L? Not sure on the gearbox?

Most would recommend the Quantum Platinum 5w-40 on here. It is more than adequate for a standard or remapped car and it's inexpensive. No point going for 'better' oil unless your running a highly tuned car with an after market turbo which would place more stress on the oil and require something that can stand up to the extra stresses.

I think you need 2l do do an oil change.

OK cool I'll read through that for the gearbox standard however as for using quantum yeah that's what skoda mentioned they use along with castrol however I wanted something that exceeded the standard for the pd cars. I've read 507 standard can be used for pd too? That would include the ultra :) appreciate the support!

507 superceeds the 505.01

Any oil that meets 507 is fine in a pd

So update. Parts arrived in skoda today I believe picking them up Friday. Found shells decent 507 oil for the Vrs following the advice on here although I'm sure Opie don't sell this.. I asked which gearbox oil to go for and received a note saying to use mtf 75w 80 in either fusch or red line. Anyone had any experience with those? I'll be ordering two litres for the replacement. Did try looking at halfords as I get trade discount but there wasn't much on offer that I saw unless anyone had used anything from there I missed?

I posted above the oil for the gearbox that meets the correct spec and many people on here suggest to use.

Oh and you need 2.3litre for the box.

The VRS 6-speed uses different fully synthetic gearbox oil, just order it from TPS.
