Ok tested the switch, works fine. Im having my dinner, then will look at these bulbs and swap out the nasty led ones.

ive sorted the radio, swapped yellow/ red, rehoused the cables behind the housing, its tight but it all sits flush, ordered top plastic trim as mine has gone, i need to fix the cup holder as its broke, and will not stay in place. I dont care about replacing it, just fix it in place i guess.

Will be under the bonnet when the rain stops, checking brake reservoir, see what's going on there.

Shopping bought:

Oil + fliter

fuel filter

pagid pads front/ back

pollen filter

name down for ERG delete kit , group buy

Ring Xenon max H7 & H3

Boot carpet (mines missing)

drivers side top door seal

battery cover.

Alloy wheel centre caps

In progress:

check/ replace bulbs - i have some to test dont have to wait for the new ones above

Clean off ERG spill onto brake reservoir, check levels, and if it drops.

Check brake vac pipes.

Wednesday morning, mechanic to inspect, specifically underneath

Thursday steam clean.

Friday. check rerdoor seals, and DIY fix

Further info required:

It has a oil catch tank fitted, but fitted very rough, it has hosepipe off the manifold, then reducing to black (proper line) so im guessing the catch tank pipe was to small to fit to the manifold, or what ever.. I need a pipe, that's not going to melt like the dam hose pipe is..

I will need to research the replacement of the pipe work leaving the ERG as its been riveted as apparently it kept blowing off. - ive seen the thread on here, will wait to do this along side ERG delete.

  • I'm not sure about the electrical niggles - it sounds a bit like it's been rewired by a f%^*wit sparky. Anyway - if you have ASR the button on the centre console says ASR. If you have ESP it says ESP

  • If you want your head unit to keep its memory, swap over the red and yellow cables at the back. Put the yellow with red and the red with yellow.

  • As above about asr Have you checked brake fluid level? As for headunit maybe somebody had a diff one in and tried to fit original and just shoved it in perhap cables been broken in process as im sur

No H3 bulbs fitted ...

Edited by FromTheDarkness

The switches for the interior light are microswitches that are mounted on the lock units inside the door. They are notorious for failing, especially on the driver's door which obviously gets the most use. The microswitches are not available seperately but can be replaced with something similar if you have the skills. Other than that, you'd have to buy a new lock unit complete with fitted microswitch (not cheap).

I managed to get mine working with a similar switch I got from ebay. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/330840-door-microswitch/

Symptoms of failed microswitch are:

Interior light not coming on when door opened.

Car locking itself after 30 seconds even with driver's door open if key not inserted into ignition first.

Lights-on warning bleeper not working with side/headlights on and driver's door opened.

I know youve already got pads and discs. But i found mintex a very good brand

Compared to what i had on the front which were ****.

I got as ebay deal from firm called pro parts.a set of pads(4) plus 2 discs 26.99

The owner used to work specifally in the brake trade

He only deals with mintex as he said branches like eurocarparts deal with china which is mass produced and life time of there brands can be as much as a 3rd shorter!

Have you got a link, ive done a search for "pro parts" nothing, searched Mintex and cant find a deal like that :(

At that price they're Chinese fakes, a set of genuine Mintex pads alone costs more than that.

Certainly not fake. Just very good deal they had on via ebay 6-8 months ago

It was deal on 6-8months ago. How much did you pay? Pro parts based in peterborough. So prob not one near you

Brakes on my 1.9 ibiza 2001, with drum rears are better, Ye i know its slower, but if i chuck the ancor out at high speed, the vrs seems to loose grip/ slips ... and i dont really notice abs, i had a 145 cloverleaf before the ibiza that had violant abs, i dont even feel it in the vrs, its like the breaks initially bite then sag..

Also i will add, i dont even know wtf callipers i have they are black.. maybe just repainted, previous eurocarparts states Bora discs, are they the same?

looking at this http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/the-definitive-brake-thread-for-8l-a3-s3-owners-and-other-golf4-platform-cars.96917/

The vrs shares the same brakes as Audi S3 Quattro | Audi TT-Quattro (225hp) | VW Golf anniversary | Golf GTI AUQ | Skodá Octavia VRS | VW Golf V5 170 | VW Golf V6 4 Motion

no way they can be as bad as mine are, will be doing a thourow check tomorrow

Fabia vRS doesn't share brakes with those

Having spend most of the afternoon under the bonnet,

I also need to replace the top boost pipe, as its leaking in several places, and i may as well delete the ERG while im at it..

Brakes fitted diy or at a garage? Have you cleaned all the brakes etc up? Sometimes people get over excited with the copper grease and it ends up on the disc faces and then pads........this means crap brakes. Have they done any mileage since fitted so they're bedded in properly?

Interior light issues are most definately the door lock switch, which will be a new switch and/or lock unit.

You say applying pressure to the headlight switch makes the fogs go off? Sounds like a dodgy switch to me? Does the loom behind the switch unit have any additional wires chopped into it? I ask this as there were people fitting "coming home light kits" from a member on here and possibly fitted it poorly like some of the other bodges you mention.

It sounds like the missing h3 bulbs could be missing so the fogs act a a crude drl system? Which would answer the whole light issues.

The egr pipework is best replaced by silicone piping in my opinion and use mikalor clamps for permanent results.

Battery cover might not be missing either if it's a blt engine. Asz engines had the covers but not blt engines.

Thanks for that was very informative

Not sure regarding brakes, ive only had the car  3 days, check fluid level its topped up fine. But looks a little dirty, so will replace that a.s.a.p

Interior light i will forget for now

On removal the outer cast with the dimmer ajuster poped out, but i could not pull out the main body to check behind, is it screwed from dash, or underneath?

I have checked, the bulbs and fitted some h3s it didnt rectify the fogs ><

Erg, ive ordered the parts, following the guide on here.

Im ashuming its the ASZ as thats the ERG delete model ive gone for ( delete ERG while messing with the boost pipe)

also do Audi A3 (2003-2012) 8P N/S 312mm caliper/ carriers fit?

No idea on the Audi calipers sorry but I'm sure the fabia is based on the golf platform. The rears usually get upgraded from the Octavia setup. The fronts possibly Octavia and golf????

Won't hurt to clean up the brakes and give them 100miles, see if they get any better. I never had a problem with the standard ones on my vrs. The headlight switch isn't fixed in as such, if you push the headlight dial in whilst turning it to the right the unit unclips itself then you can pull it out. Wiring should come with it but I bet there's some dodgy wiring that is causing the lights issue.

Stick a picture up of the engine and it'll be easier to tell. What year is the car?

You didn't listen, the entire switch comes out like a cylindrical lock barrel with the multiway plug and all the wires attached, just push the lighting knob in, twist slightly and pull like I said earlier.

The 312 discs and calipers will fit but you need separate carriers to do the conversion, just do a search it's been covered a thousand times before.

Ok will try that

The brakes may well have been covered, if you simply want to £150 on 2x carriers, yes its simple.

How ever im sure you can pick up S3/TT/A4/OCAVIA callipers, and do a full calliper swap for cheaper ... i actually cant find a comprehensive guide as to what callipers fit without needing hubs etc.

Yes i know the mk4 carriers fit... try finding them..and im not paying £150 for 2 small pieces of metal :p just because its a popular upgrade!

Commendable, good luck doing the brake conversion without spending money on carriers, let us know how you get on.

So far from what i have read all the earlier callipers as in TT, S3, A3, MK4 just bolt on, what im not sure of is other than the MK4 do any just allow the carriers? also not sure of each models cut off from MK1 - MK2, kind of a mind field when discussing with scrap yards and ebay sellers. I will wait till Wednesday, and speak to my mechanic as he has loads of old motors and parts, fingers crosses he might have some MK4 carriers, or some other variation above we can try the callipers.

But some other things im unsure of, if any of these do bolt on, does it effect ABS also effecting traction control.. not sure?

the calipers will not simply bolt on to give you an upgrade to 312s. pretty sure your Fabia will require carriers and calipers, it's a different platform to the likes of the Golf/Octavia/A3/Leon which you can just swap the carriers to upgrade from 288 to 312

Ok been to the mechanic

Needs both side wishbone bushes, bought these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181664569980 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181680301971

And both C.V outers need replacing, ordered from eurocarparts

And need to sort the lower boost pipe, its a real oily mess, with self tappers silicone grease and tie wraps everywhere!!

Fitted a used boot carpet, as was missing, and replaced the top passenger seal ... removing the old seal debris was a pain in the arse, after that easy.

Ok confirmed goosed switch, i did as said and pulled it out, there is obviously a dodgy connection. When ive pulled it out then put back in without the spring, twiddle it the fogs go out.

So next question, how the hell do i remove this box? i know i can get a cheap used one off ebay ... but it seems fixed is it screwed from other side of the dash fitting?

And i cant get that bloody sping back in for temp use, till replaced.

New issue !!

Fuel gague was acting up now remains on zero, after putting £40 in!

is the unit/fuel gauge sender unit responsible for the gauge reading? would replacing this rectify it?

ive found the way to replace this http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/engine/1.9/74_tdi_engine_mechanics/fuel_supply_gas_operation/removing_and_installing_parts_of_the_fuel_supply_part_1/removing_and_installing_the_fuel_delivery_unit/fuel_gauge_sender_unit/
