Got my eye on a Fabia MK1 1.9 SDI Estate...

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Newbie here.

I'm looking for my first car and have been generally looking at Fabia 1.2 hatchbacks but theres a couple of things in the summer for which a bigger car would be really useful, and I've spotted an 01 Estate with the 1.9SDI engine on 132,000 miles, which I can afford to insure. It's obviously not in mint condition but to be honest I'm not that bothered - it's dirt cheap anyway and the most I could ever hope for is around the same price as sell on value in future.. I understand that the 1.9, with or without turbo, is a pretty good engine that will go on and on if looked after.

Just wondered if anyone had any tips or things to look for?

It has a towbar so I need to check the clutch if I do go see it; is it a big job to replace if it's knack'd? I may need to tow a 1 tonne caravan from storage to a campsite in July (its about 4 miles max) so anything I need to check with that in mind?

Also, the rear bumper is cracked, probably from incompetence with a trailer tho I intend to find out. Are they difficult to replace if I got a cheap one from a scrap car?

Any info would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
