foglights + license plate

Featured Replies

Have anyone changed foglights to led?

Have anyone changed license plate lights to led?

I have changed license plate lights to LED. No problem, you just have to code it correctly to get rid of bulb warning.

And as far as I know also front foglights can be changed to LED.

Changed my number plate lights for ones with built in resistors, no issues.

Yesterday I replaced the plate lights with original VW led lights. It requires coding or use of resistors. I think it looks great.

What kind of led bulb did you use?

Me? It's a complete lamp module with built in LED. They have the number 3AF943021A. I bought them from carsystems.pl

Yes to both questions. If you get the number plate lights with built in resistors then they will just produce heat for no reason and the LEDs will fail prematurely. There really is no need when the mk3 has a super flexible BCM where by any light can be programmed for LED and have no faults on the dash.

Same goes for fog lights although any of the aftermarket Cree 30w/ 50w / 80w etc will also fail due to the heat produced and insufficient heat dissipation :-)

According to my dealer the var use

License plate : 12V 5W Sofiten

Foglights: H8

Is that correct?

I have contactet severall websites in Norway and they recommend to by led foglights + http://www.ekstralys.no/products/pp-motstand-2-stk-

These work really well for footwell lights, glovebox light, puddle lights, number plate lights and sidelights in Xenon headlights

The number plate, footwell and sidelights need coding as LED with VCDS

I have such H8 LED "bulbs" in my Elegance.

I bought them from a different seller in 4300 K color.

They are MUCH brighter than the standard bulbs.

(Of course not 2400 or 3000 lumens but 1200-1500 lm.)

The 2 LEDs are absolutely in perfect position so the light pattern is similar to standard.

When mounted the LEDs facing left and right.

Now I have lot more light on the side of the road with my fogs.

I use them on dark roads when there's no oncoming traffic. Awesome brightness :)

Important: these don't support dimming so the cornering fogs will work as on/off.

Coding needed with VCDS.

The cooling effect is very effective.

I have tested one of the bulbs for 1 hour before mounted.

Temperature rised 80 C degree on top and the same time the heat sink was 70 C degree.

There's enough space for the external drivers behind the fog lamp.

Current draw: 1,2-1,3 A / bulb (measured).

I don't now how long will they last but I don't use them so often...fingers crossed :)

Think I'll be going this, the OEM look is a lot better than a really bright LED bulb

You can dim the LEDs without flicker - I have my number plate lights set at 80% - I might drop them to 70% yet

What LED's have you got in yours Andy?

Thanks, opted for the VW OEM ones today, ordered up €15 each.

Just need to get a cable now for my adaptions or find a nice person local.

It's not that far indeed, I may take you up on that I have got 6 or 7 adaptions to do though lol so maybe I'm better off getting a cable. I'll let you know, but thanks for the offer :)
