Need some help with car purchase

Featured Replies

We just looked at an Octavia 2006,the guy that is selling it has two keys but they are both standard keys with no remote button on. He is selling it quite cheaply so we are a bit cautious. Does this sound right? He claims it didn't come with remote keys. We don't want to but a lemon so any advice appreciated as we otherwise like the car.

Seems odd, what's the chance of loosing both remote keys?, go with gut instinct, cheap for a reason.

Any doubts, walk away. There are hundreds of Octavia 2s on the market.

I also doubt it didn't come with remote keys unless maybe the earliest bottom spec models didn't.

Have you hpi checked the vehicle?

What model is it? Not all Octavia had remote locking.

I would walk away fella

+1 {Have you hpi checked the vehicle?]

thanks folks, its a 2006 1.9 pd estate, I have the reg number and the mot and the logbook number. I did the check on the DVLA site and the mileage seems consistent. The only MOT history that is strange is that it had 2 MOT's last year within six months of each other. There are lots of receipts for new clutch and flywheel (£800) and a new turbo (£600) but I know receipts are easy to fabricate. Is there anything else I could check using the documents? I took photos of the MOT's and Logbook, what could the missing keys mean?

my car is i have 2 keys no fob and and number if I lose keys, been told this is norm for this car,,skoda octavia classic 19,tdi  05

Yeah if it's a classic it won't have remotes for the locking so it sounds right. Was it sold last year? It's possible that a fresh mot was put on simply to make it more saleable

can you get remotes for them like?

The s spec models didn't have remote locking as late as at least 2009 possibly never

That it had an MOT, then was sold, now is being sold again within a short amount of time tells me its a lemon. I would say the turbo failure is indicative of something else being wrong and it will go (or is going) wrong again. Walk away.

I paid for the full hpi check, everything checks out with no finance or mileage issues etc. I have taken the car on a very long drive, the seller encouraged it and to be honest it seems like a really nice motor. I have also dug into the history and receipts and note that all the work and servicing was done at the same garage. (one owner so believable I guess) The receipt history is pretty extensive, the guy has kept everything, even light bulb receipts. All the receipts seem to match advisories too like cv boot fail on mot, receipt from garage for fitting cv and mot same day then a pass. This is consistent with all mot's. (have all of them from new) he also had a minor bump four years ago, the front bumper was replaced via insurance. I have the claim excess forms and the body shop work to do assessment and post work report. Cant help but feel if that dishonest he could have hidden that. It was being offered at a very reasonable price so I bought it.Leaves me a good bit of cash for any work needed, hopefully won't regret it too much. Thanks for all the advice though guys. First impressions are good but it seems to be poverty spec, can't complain too much as a new business means I needed a cheap runaround with a big boot. I am hoping I can somehow add a fuel computer as it has none and get a remote key. If not no big deal.
