Right, at the weekend my wife did this to my car-

 

 

Before you feel sick, that's curry. We had a large pot of curry for a family do and in her wisdom instead of putting it on the rear seats which I'd folded down for her she put it on the front seat. So what you see there is about 3 litres of chicken tikka sauce and all of a 2" thick layer of oil on top. 

 

We have a family member who has a garage who will take the seat out and pressure wash it then keep the seat for a week while we take the car with its seat out for a serious valet. However, he's about 1 3/4 hours away so we could do with someone more local. Is there anyone, ideally between Nottingham and Derby or in Sheffield who could do this? 

 

I had a quick look on ebay for a new seat but it's for a Fabia Monte Carlo and there's not any one there, and I'd be willing to bet that if there were it'd be red. I dread to think what a new one will cost...

Sorry I can't be of any help. I hope the oil comes out properly, I know it doesn't come out of leather well at all. But hopefully you'll be okay with the cloth.

Takes a week to get tumeric out of my fingers if I use it. This might be harder than you think.

 

If you can get rid of the smell I suppose you can live with the stains for a while.

Wouldn't it be easier to get a new seat from Ebay or somewhere?

take the covers of and put tem in the washing machine, had a simler thing a few years back with an astra, and it came up realy clean ,( to clean showed the other seats up).

Yeah, I've just found out the Monte Carlo seat covers are removable. Any tips for where to start to take them off?

they can be a pain, they will be held on with clips and metal rings , it may be worth finding a trimer getting them back on is the hard part.

Ewwwww, probably a job for a specialist valeter. Mate of mine works at a bodyshop and they had a car in where someone had had a traffic accident whilst suffering from digestive trouble (yes, they did, and that, and that as well, yep, there was that all over as well). Sufficed to say, they were happy to get an external contractor in for a clean. Do a search for something like "car valet blood"

I gave Mrs H a hard stare a la Paddington, when she split water on the seat at the weekend.

I was remarkably calm about it- I feel I haven't yet grasped the seriousness of the situation. Maybe in two months when it's 20C and the car smells like a takeaway kitchen I will lose my rag.

Are you insured fully comp?May be worth claiming on the insurance dependant on your circumstances with claim history etc.

It is after all an accident.

I'd go mental I'm afraid to say.

But indeed with oils thrown into the mix it's going to be hard graft for someone. I'd look through eBay and the local car breakers too.

At least it's not sick. My lad as a 3 yr old used to get carsick, and the worst time was when I was driving with just him and his brother in the back, on a busy DC with nowhere to stop as he power washed the rear seat, back of my chair, and my head; it was even splashed all over the centre console. It was a co. car, a red Volvo 2.5 S70, that I only had to keep for another stomach churning 6 months. At least if you're feeling hungry it might give you food for thought!

Good luck in getting it cleaned up, I'd be in the group of "extremely p*****d off if my wife had done that.

I reckon you could have real problems with this - the mixture of oil, protein and colourants (tumeric etc) will make that a bitch to clean.

 

What works for one thing might cause problems for the other parts. Brother in law (was a claims assessor for an insurance company did have a spray for removing protein (blood etc) from fabrics which works a treat but not sure how well it worked on oils etc.

 

I think I would be looking at new seats or a professional valeter tbh as I reckon the oil will have penetrated the seat cushions

The stuff for dealing with cat pish might help.it has enzymes to break thing down not just detergents. Nothing is worse than cat pee.

Kid puke is a bad one too especially when it's got a lot of milk in it.

I think I'd just buy a new car at that point

Get the curry off, if you have a vax or similar give itr a once over with that and then once dry get some backing power/bicarb on the oil stains. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then hoover it up until the worst of the oil is gone. that

 

At that point you're looking specialist cleaning or if you're willing to give it a go, try the vanish oxy action powder. That cleaned dried on blood off a some sheets, where it had survived multiple washes and will also take our turmeric.
