Retro fit ACC - is it possible?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if retro fitting adaptive cruise is possible for the VRS. Seeing the radars going for couple hundred quid (think its same as mk7 golf one?).

Presumably need new control stalk and front lower grille - but would the wiring be there and is likely to be code-able by VCDS?

Anyone tried it yet.

I'd be REALLY interested in this too.

I'm just about to jump ship from an Audi A4 Avant (that I really love)

Thing is, about a year into my PCP on the A4, a sensor 'went' on it (that never usually does). As a result, it took a week or more to get replaced, from Germany, as they never had the part over here in the UK.

In the interim period, Audi provided me with an A7 Sportback 3.0L Quattro, with all the usual 'Bells n Whistles' (to try and tempt me to 'upgrade', no doubt.) It worked.......(sort of...) :p

My personal spec was a manual 6-speed box on the  A4 that I never thought I'd deviate from....."Auto Boxes...?? - Pah...for wimps!!)

How wrong was I??

As most of you know, they've come on in leaps and bounds (in DSG/TripTronic config) so now...I've gotta have one! (It's like driving in 'an armchair'....)

The trouble is with Audi - the upgrades are 'prohibitively' expensive. As a result, I've started looking at the Octavia's which have been getting such good reviews!

I'm NOT a Snob-Badge customer (though I admit, I used to get a lot of satisfaction in seeing the 'double-takes' at the 4-rings at the front of the  Audi from pedestrians as I passed by.....but that's now worn off, a a lot!!)

My query is also, along the lines of the OP..can I get a standard Octy 3 with 'normal' cruise instantaneously....but after driving (my) new A5 for a few wks,. could I then ask you for your address too??

Plz get back to me... ;- )Thx

Probably is but Id wager its cost prohibitive. The radar unit alone as an official new part costs £££, then you have all the relative wiring, coding....also if the car wasnt built with it other components may not be capable of supporting it (BCM etc etc).

Like most things nowadays if you want it desperately best to either buy a car with it fitted or get a factory order.

You need more than the radar and a loom. Plus it needs calibrating, which most Skoda dealers don't have the necessary kit for, so be prepared to pay Audi dealer Labour rates.....

I asked SUK same question a while back. Answer was 'No', and I already have the radar for front assist.

Im guessing too much extra wiring, which could possibly mean taking the dash apart. Plus the extra stalk, which as is, there isn't space to fit I don't think.
